had the conversation on his dogs long ago and he told me then they were £200,so thinking about the price wich was leaving a bad taste decided to give it a shot probably against better judement, now this was nigh on 10 years ago and i had to go on a waiting list, some months down the line he was advertising in the countryman weekly with pups for sale from genuine old fashioned strains of tumblers norfolks and smithfields so i rang him up no answer so then tried his web sight wich is when i saw his pedigrees, the dogs he was breeding from had all manner of running blood totaly bitzas, not saying an

dogs are what they are, lurchers are either softvor hard or some place in the middle.f they are hard mouthed then you wont change it.my own bitches are the two extreams one hard one very soft.

sorry if you boys thought i was asking the question for my self i wasnt it was purly to find veiws,my own pup was taken out at 9 months with a lot of early day time sucksess from around 5/6 month on mixy rabbits, but on the lamp was over eager so was held back for another 10/11 weeks, shes now 11 almost 12 months old and had a few more outings in the lamp and doing very well for her self, you see the thing is i hear folks spouting that they have machines at six months and i cant except it,ive seen hundreds run at all ages some with great dog men others not so and all over the country.braggers of

we also have rabbit netting around making life a bit easier as you say so if the pup is steady enough then seven months can be done, our dogs get all the above youve mentioned but harder ground by us easy to sour a pup.im midland based so tend to leave mine ten months or so depending, size doesnt bother me as long as they are strong and mentally ready.the ground ive mentiond win is hard ground to work in as much as rabbits have little to stop for at hedges and such so have to be worked fairly quickly on flat arable and the criss cross of bard wire on the grass land is a pain plus light polution

Wright because another thread is be slieghtly hijacked ive started this one, what age do folk on hear realy think it is good practice to (enter) a( pup),im not asking how to enter a pup start to finish but at what stage and age it gets its chance to course healthy rabbits either by day or night, comment as to why how etc.

my own bitch has been taking a fair few since she was around five or six month mainly mixy in a small paddock whilst ive been working the field on weeds and such but never would i take out a 3/4 month old pup in the lamp to do what dogs at a good age somtimes struggle to do,she has picked up in excess of maybe 40 rabbits doing this and to watch her was fun but the field was small enough not to afford her to get into unhealthy courses for her age,as said the vast majority were mixy.TRY KEEPING IT REAL instead of the usual bull.

only to people like your self that has never tried or seen it . ,a lot has seen that it does happen and how good the results are ,that is all i can say ,and a lot of the witnesses are on this site ,and take it from me ,they are doing it them selves with there pups .like i keep saying the pups are taken out with older dogs and just left to do what they want ,.its as simple as that . Makes sence if you really think about it lads dont dout it untill you try it, i got a pup to try this way now, use your head lads it makes a great deal of sence NO IT DOESNT,not on clean healthy rabbits a

doga replied to Bilyboy45's topic in Working Dogs & Livestock
look mate say what you want about yer boys being tough or what ever but dogs on abit of grass that knoch up toes ait gonna cut it in the field, bring what ever argument you want about other breeds yours was a silly statement to make all be it honest about the toe, bull blood will add something more but you still aint getting away from the fact youve bad feet in your lurcher.its fact. -
well me and undisputed have had a knock or two on hear before but fair play in my eyes no wrong intentions for me,after all its the sport yo want £50 a lot when you aint got it so thats why i havnt had a go but if i had and that same case had been put to me then no problem ive got a sporting sence.undisputed all the best.

to high maintenance for me to so wouldnt keep one, seen lots worked and some very handy but to much to go wrong they arnt strong enough to do a regular lurchers work.how to find the right one for lurcher production is another matter a big can of worms.
-
so what do you know when was it done or are you just having us on lol. got to add a bit on though the most ive seen by one dog was 44 and quite a few were taken within 10 yds of the seat plus squatters.youd have to travel at least 100 mile of were i live to see enough rabbits to do that number, never mind the tun.

I thought it didnt matter what a dog was as long as it was brought on right? So whats your point? My point is you tit that why do you need to know whats in a dog if its all down to how you bring the dog on?...........or have you changed your mind it always gets silly on here but oooooooooooooooowwwwwwww i do like it! ,often good lurchers are put to good lurchers in the hope of good lurchers end of,the trouble is with breeding pedigrees unknowns is what the pairing is going to throw, can any one honestly say they know.its not the same as keeping stains of purpose bred coursin

-
nothing wrong with lurcher to lurcher or bitza what ever, but knowing whats in the make up helps as regards the phisicalitys of the pups after all its longevity genuine lurcher folk want,i know theres die hards in every lurcher breeding corner but for me to much greyhound for example doesnt do the mix to many favoures youve got to keep the lurcher functional wind brain feet the later for me above all , (no feet no dog).to many bitza types ive seen have been porley bred with no regard to these atributes but having said all of that ive seen bitzas that have been brilliant.i think that is why thin
