  1. Yes they are bright little dogs,if I got another terrier it would be a Lucas because they a good all round terriers, make a good replacement when you retire your bedlington,in the pic you can see two Lucas terriers & lab with pheasant poults feeding around them,I would leave them like this while I checked snares around the pen, only once did the coloured terrier kill a poult I reckon it must have pecked him!
  2. Darbo he’s a Lucas terrier,I got him from Paul hawks (RIP) his dam & sire were in hunt service for the tynedale Hunt around Hexham.
  3. When you recall him without a rabbit or dummy etc does he come to you? Not when the fancy takes him! But straight away? I would start with no dummy's etc just recall him in the garden or confined space untill he comes straight to you, let's say he comes to the recall well, next on your knees postion and when the dog comes to you,get him to come right into your chest and hold him there making a fuss of him & the odd treat, do this while out for a walk BUT don't over do it as you will make him a slow retriever, once you get this off your half way there BUT don't move to the next step untill re
  4. I didn't know if it was spelling mistakes or a local ascent I've never come across, but it more likely he's only 9 on his dad's p.c, . Socks stop replying to him,I've only been on this forum a week or so but I know what bills about, well done with your dog.
  5. Bill hardy, out of interest what part of the country or town are you from? .
  6. Your right there's no rush,I am not 100% sure exactly what cross I want yet and I need to be as I might have it 15 years,it's 24 year since I bought my dog from David Hancock ,the scale of the place, sheeps heads all over the place & my daughter coming home with flea bites all stick in my mind,no I won't be going back for another.hancock collie greyhounds have made a large impression on the world of lurchers though,I would bet most collie greyhounds for sale have Hancock blood in them.
  7. Nothing surprises me with this goverment, anything to save money.
  8. Pups looks well Terry, what's there breeding?.
  9. Yes I've seen them they look very nice and like has been said they make Hancocks look poor.
  10. I've had a dog off him in the early 90s £120,he was a nice dog but he was forever lame or injured with one thing or another,he could catch rabbits though, had to have him put down after a suspected black thorn caused a massive abcess .he was about 12 mouths in pic retrieving shot rabbits.
  11. Thanks Neal for your honesty, yes from what you and the other lads are saying abit of whippet or greyhound is needed if you don’t want to come home empty handed! I see David Hancock does a 3/4 collie 1/4 greyhound.
  12. Yes I've delt with him years ago I will try sort you a contact number,he was abit of a miserable fecker if I remember correctly !! ,there's a working bedlington forum have you tried that?.
  13. That’s great to hear John,is there any chance you could keep us all updated with your progress with your collie?.
  14. This was my cocker searching for wounded ducks in a flooded field, when ducks are wounded they will dive on water which makes them very difficult to find,I learnt him this by chucking dummy's in clear shallow water,at first he would look at me for a command and I would just encourage him buy saying get ya daft fxxking head in the water and it just clicked.
  15. Not seen a merle that colour before very unusual, very nice.
  16. Looks a useful shape and size, you can definitely see the collie in its breeding.
  17. S.e.s.k.u ,in the top picture your dog looks just like a collie, your lad looks very pleased with the catch, nice pics.
  18. Sorry here about your dog ptd87 bonfire night is a pain in the arse, could he catch rabbits in the lamp & during the day? Did you buy him from David Hancock ? Cheers.
  19. What's the breeding on this dog trenchfoot?
  20. wasn't sure we're this thread should go lurchers or bushing but here goes, anyone ever used a border collie for what would normally be a lurchers job? I've not much first hand experience with collies apart from seeing a few as beating dogs and they were very good at it,I've owned a beardie/border X greyhound good dog but 26 tts is abit to big for what I want plus he was forever lame, I thought a good collie would catch a few rabbits in the lamp and be a entertaining daytime hunter as well as being tough & nobody would give you a second look.
  21. Hi, I've joined the forum because my interest in workings dogs which started with a bedlingon X whippet/greyhound bought in the miners strike, then I got into bedlingtons (Rillington breeding) with a collie greyhound for catching rabbits, I then got into Lucas terriers and for the last 17 years it's been gun dogs used for picking up. I've always loved bushing mooching about and that's the section I will be most interested in,my next dog will be something for bushing to accompany my cocker.
