  1. Leaning towards skinning it asap, but hopefully no more crawling bunnies. atb
  2. Had a mooch out with the lamp last night, more a training session for his first season looming than anything else, we We're getting close to heading home empty handed but their were a few bunnies in a small field, they were quite close to the bushes and the pup is very aware of them and will ease off the gas (sometimes cheaper than the vet's) but in for a penny I put it on the lamp and he even chased the thing into the Bush and scored, not only that he brought it back when I turned the lamp off (not to hand tho, he did a drop short and and give it a few death squeezes) but he happily gave it u
  3. Good looking dog, like mine, always has his ears up.
  4. Does anybody feed for pre hunt or post hunt ie recovery, or wait till they have cooled down and feed as normal or wait till a morning feed?
  5. Not gonna lie I ain't got the nerve to run him with the car, scared I splat him lol, ill take him for a run and that's about it,
  6. Read it, it's really good, Defo worth a look if you haven't seen it yet. Cheers
  7. Really looking forward to my lurchers first full season and I am getting a good base fitness from walks out, ball work and a bit of day mooching. I am looking to build on this base fitness mainly with slowly entering the season however I know theirs a wealth of knowledge on here so was curious if anybody had any good links for running dog fitness or any secret tips for peak performance even cut and paste from sites they know atb
  8. So many better alternatives to milk for calcium. It's not great for dogs the same way it's not great for people 1 simple sugars similar to sweets or chocolate, hence why some use as a recovery drink with protein cos it goes in system quick. 2 unwanted growth hormones meant for calves or men who want bitch tits 3 awesome for diabetes and obesity when people think their getting something healthy cos calcium gets mentioned
  9. Keep it on whatever it is used to then slowly put it onto whatever you find works best ie quality dry, barf or both, plenty of time to look around and study.
  10. A friend's dog used to stalk slowly to a rabbit till it ran, best way I can describe is a like a cheetah, then she would give chase, great to watch.
  11. It would be nice to see an epic lurcher fail now and again, My Lurcher certainly has some traits I like but some days theirs an alternative meaning ie, Solid build = Doesn't like to go toilet in the yard when its raining Good recall = except when the scent gets to strong then he go lone wolf High prey drive = Will always leave the daytime squatter 5 meters away for the impossible runner Good jumper = prefers walls and spending 5 mins looking for alternative to fence or till I pick him up. Good retrieve= brings ball back overtime will eventually bring rabbit when fully ten
  12. He didn't kill it but it was proper knacked and no longer putting up a fight
  13. Appreciate it He's had a couple of daytime rabbits but they were in his favour his behaviour at night off lead is coming on really well Inc his recall and he got a fuss for catching the rabbit on the lamp. I think your right, Defo excited to have the rabbit in his mouth and getting lost in the moment (I was aswell lol). I'll keep the fetch games going and get some weighted bunny hides on the go and get it down for winter
  14. So,my 11 month old Lurcher caught his first rabbit on the lamp last night but decided he was gonna be a bit rough with it and not bring it back however his recall was still working but minus the rabbit. Training; Good recall Works off the lead Brings ball back to a high standard If anybody has experienced this has has visibly seen positive results from any retraining they used I would appreciate some tips Cheers
  15. Appreciate reply matt1979 thats covered the topic nicely.
  16. So the verdict is they are prone disengagement of brain over prey drive and foot and leg injury. Would this be the same for other greyhound xs ie the gryhound x whippet and bullx
  17. Any greyhounds for sale, lol. I'm already committed to a 9 month old Lurcher who's ticking the training boxes, it started with a conversation with a friend so was curious to see if greyhounds where out there getting used to a good standard
  18. I have heard they are prone to foot injuries but I was hoping for some positive experiences or old stories or maybe some coursing lines that might have potential in the field of brought up from a pup
  19. I was just curious if anybody has had some positive experience with using greyhounds instead of a Lurcher that they have brought up as a puppy.
  20. Might of been it was a good size lol.
  21. Was out today having a mooch with the youngster hoping for an easy run for him and seeing a potential shadow in a good sized field and an easy slip from the gate was an ideal opportunity, when i got up close though it was black and had its back to me so i give a little squeak from behind the wall to make sure it wasn't a cat, with curiosity quickly settled i got in position and set the hound off, we have practiced a fair bit with the dummy so once he had been lined up and sighted the obvious dark shadow he was away and i waited on the run but it just stayed their, the dog picked it up without
  22. Was meant to put this on earlier, Thanks for all the feedback.
  23. I reckon he will be ready in May for his first rabbit which will make him a year old, I say this because he doesn't yet have full control of his legs yet and is still growing. Has anybody else had a dog become ready in the spring?
  24. Hello Im 7 months in on trainging my lurcher, he is a half greyhound 1/4 whippet and some collie, bull, deerhound for good measure, he is coming upto 21kg and 25tts and growing, im guessing 25kg for final weigh in. I believe all is going well, its my first time training a lurcher, (apart from owning a pre trained whippet) recall is good on dummy and tennis ball on and off lamp, but the proof will be in the pudding i guess Just wanted to introduce myself i am in harrogate area but from NE
