I agree these mandatory courses are all coming in its out of hand, I read in a copy of Modern Gamekeeping that the new snare course setup in Scotland they had 1000 entries at £45plus vat within days of setting it up to keep within the law, gamekeepers who have been setting snares from the start, pushed into it. As said its getting silly, same as all this DSC junk. You will need a certificate to shoot a rabbit with an airgun and correct paunching method next !!

Agree John. But I think we should always have different options, horses for courses if you like, These traps are good at what you suggest, I'd not hesitate to use one in the scenario you explained.. My worry is some are trying to push the likes of the Fenn, etc out Saying there not capable...Some of the traps about now, whats the point... the likes of the DOC, what is the actual point?

At first I was put off by the tube traps, one reason the cost as stated compared to other similar traps like bodygrips and fenn's. But as a complete all in one, they are very good at what they do. The killing power I've witnessed is more than adequate.

The Magnum 116 is unique to the UK. 'Conibear' is the generic name given to this type of trap, after the inventor. OTC is the member with the real knowledge of the history. Alan Fenn famously used a statement claiming the Springers were illegal when they first came out. I've got a copy somewhere, but the orders have changed quite a bit since then. Yes Matt, I am aware of the conibear 'umbrella', but, pertaining to the 110's which company cloned off which?? No reason, just playing devil's advocate... The BMI is the approved UK trap, any other similar style trap not on the S

The BMI 110 is legal upto rat/stoat/squirrel size The 116 is a modified 110 with a larger spring, I think its off the 160 trap, I might be wrong off the top of my head, I can remember Robin telling me it was needed for approval, for rabbit and mink after testing as the inital 110 failed requirements also for these..

Theres stopping junk getting into the market, and wanting a good humane trap...... Then theres preventing near identical traps with equal killing power to already passed trap's from being passed at all... These supposed new approval requirements are getting silly and someone somewhere is pushing them, not for the good of trapping, for the good of themselves..sad state of affairs.

Messer I can see it now, As the morning air was crisp, and the townies slept a ginger man stepped out into the shimmering meadows, trap in hand, snares in pocket, totally at one with the countryside, followed by a fluttering of moths and a gaggle of grubs at his feet. The hard feel of steel chilled his fingers to the bone, as he set trap after trap against the unexpected conies, snares placed uniformly with deadly precision along the long tapering fencelines, trapper hat at the ready, and a 946 mile mink line in tow... Better still place your trap in the run, don't set it, open it and let it spring shut to make sure there's nothing impeding the jaws, stones, etc and it fires freely. Place a small piece of mud below were the trigger will sit, so the trigger sits on top of it, position the trap and keep one finger on top of the trigger as you push it level onto the mud you have packed in the centre to prevent it firing. Fill with soil.

Not sure socks, I forwarded the details onto fitchet. Unsure if He's had any feedback from it yet.

Just received this email if anyone GENUINE can help. I have a significant rabbit problem which I haven't been able to find someone reliable, trustworthy and insured to deal with it . I have almost 5 acres , plus a garden and another 4 acres where I have permission but not ownership . Would your site be a possible source of someone who might be able to deal with it with either airgun or ferrets ? I am near Eastbourne on the Downs Reply to this thread.

Registerd Mole Catcher's Code Of Conduct

Its like anything, when you do something enough you learn, what works well, for me the barrel trap is quicker to set in a run, you have the ability for double catches, it costs half the price of other traps.. I've got other trap types, but always use barrel traps 99% of the time. If you set them correctly you do not get many plugged traps, the odd one, that's just my own opinion of course as you can gather, some don't seem to favour them. -
No John, I actually just spotted it browsing something on the net, as a guess I'd say circa £200 I reckon.
-
Yes probably not as good as some of the compact lamps and lights already available John, I'm sure we will find out soon..
-
Just noticed Lightforce are bringing out a new Pred9x lamp for 2013 a gun mounted LED contained unit, looks nice and compact.. Sure they will be available over here soon enough. If they offer any advantage over other units, well thats another thing..

That's why it should be optional, not global. Taking the Gazza thread again, had anyone quoted me in that yesterday, would I go trawling through all of them pages to find it, would I hell. But, if I was interested in comments made quoting my post then it would be quick and easy to find. I turned off the "like post" alert on the other forum, also the alerts for when a new post was added to a thread I contributed to, I found that cut down the alerts by 90%.
