Worked on a chicken farm for many years shifting birds and clearing sheds . Intensive and free range, only saw a few rats the whole time i was there.

When the farm was bigger and encompassed the intensive side to chickens ,the barns were proper infested in the walls with rats going all ways at night but we caught very few due to the many holes for escape .

They have since been knocked down and it's free range only with 18 sheds running and ducks on the way .This relatively new farmer is better at husbandry than the old establishment with loses to a minimum and hygiene paramount .The old lot didn't bother pushing stragglers in of a night therefore the fox population was massive .We shot, dug and snared 270 odd in our second year doing the place .Now I only go all out on a fox that's making a nuisance of itself .

Where you based Keith ,if you ain't too far you are welcome to add a bit of color to an outing

If the rats are there bud I'd travel down ,I'm back and forth down south regular for work so not to much of a problem. That's a nice offer ,one which I will take up if you have Rom in your rattling team for couple Plummers, collie and a Geordie ,a TV Keith j
