Used to feed a lot of fish to the racing dogs and they did well on it and in them days we all used vitalin as a base so I expect a bit of decent protein was helpful. At the end of the day many dogs do well on completes, many do well on completely raw diets both have their proponents but for working dogs its more about what's best.

Supplements, mainly just rubbish as a good diet will give what’s needed other than a few special cases. Take the glucosamine, found in many foods and supplementation doesn’t add anything http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/the-top-ten-pet-supplements-do-they-work/  .  There’s a big push from the vitamin sellers at the moment, TV ads etc, to milk the sacred cow before problems with supplementation become more common knowledge http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?s=vitamins

Basically you may well be slowing the healing/recovery by taking vitamin supplements.

Just get some supranutraC http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/276504-sandymeres-wonder-supplement/

:hmm: For years I fed my lamping dogs on whole carcases, rabbits, Hares,.Pheasants,.. and road kill deer,...

Nowadays,.I prefer to sell my meagre catch and use, some of the money, to purchase raw green tripes,.chicken backs, etc,..

I've also been mixing the tripes, oily fish, etc,..with a feed of Arden Grange, that I purchase from a local Gundog enthusiast..

My dogs today,...are a bit cur like,..they are not a patch on those of the 1970s/1980s,...and lack the rippling muscles and six pack physique of my night workers,..but then, so do I.....

Stamina wise,.there is no comparison at all,..and that is possibly down to their breeding,..their feeding,.or their lazy lifestyle ...mind you,.the spinning over of a few bolters,.. is a far cry from continuous nightly hunting.....

You know this world Border Scott lol, if there was one born every minute, in the 1800s when that was first said, then with the increase in world population there is one born every few seconds now! Some will try to buy anything.

Phil, I would have to admit the dogs I had in the 70/80’s were better than those I have now and they were fed vitalin with a bit of fish, today mine get a good diet with plenty of meat, bones, veggies along with a little Skinners duck and rice, the difference is in part breeding and part that I worked them more/harder when I was a young whipper-snapper.

Hot meat, remember Supranutra C gives them winds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
