Here is a few pic's from today...i have opened the two flight's up next to each other so they have more room to fly about.. .     Two mule Goldies and a irish fancy hen on the teazel     Lu

Here's a pic or two showing a exstention i added to my aviary and the roof bit i left open and this i'm splitting in two and then i'll be changing the layout of the rest of it by spring next year and

This is where i am upto for now..doing it on my own does not help and these dark night's are a ball ache when you want to crack on..not too worry though i will get there in the end..

If you want a planted aviary, then its pots or soil, soil harbours germs and parasites,as in intestinal worms,an open roof will also be a source of the same, from wild bird droppings.Mice and rats climb,so no amount of underground wire will deter them, mice will squeeze through the narrowest of wire, rats will climb and find a weak wooden barrier to chew through and gain access. The only way to counteract this is to cover the roof and artificially water the plants and put poison stations and traps around the aviary boundaries.Traps and poison work 24 hrs a day.

Nope they are not a deterant Morton..but i have killed plenty of both over a long period of time so i know where i stand with rat's and mice..mice are no threat to me or anything i own..but as soon as one is detected it's back is sharp broken and the same goes for rat's..but to be 100% honest with you i have lived in this house for 40yr's..some of them year's i will of been young.. and to this day i have only ever had 3 rat problem's in the garden and 1 mouse problem which was in the house..

I have kept no end of thing's over the year's and i am currently on with Jap quail and chicken's which i have had for the past 3yr's and a Goshawk which i have had for 5yr's..and to this day i have had no trouble with vermin what so ever..so i can't for the life of me think why a undetected mouse or rat would go for the hard option of getting in the aviary when they is a open hen shed and plenty of food slung around the garden all say long.. :hmm:

I once looked after an aviary, traps poison box,s set on 3 sides, the birds thrived for years, then in one night a pair of bali starlings that were invaluable to the breeding project at that time, met their fate at the attentions of a rat,a learning lesson that taught me to be alert at all times to the obvious that no amount of precautions could oversee, another time a colony of pure Gouldians lost eggs and chicks to a single mouse.Never say never, because it will bite you in the arse.

 looks the mutts ... roll your wire out onto some ply tack each corner then roll it .

The first bit i tried to do was rolled out on a bench but i used around 9 times as much paint in the proccess so i sacked that idea off..as i was also painting the bench.. :D

From my limited experience you best lick the stapled edge's before you put it up then do the rest when it's ridged and in place,,
