    i have always worn rubber work gloves for my trapping , it saves your hands from getting cold ,dry and cracked If your really into mole trapping then you should deffo get moley,s vid on the subject...if for nothing else other than to see him sat at the table with "those" gloves on

    The reason that "back-pegging" isn,t the best method for night time work is quite simply the distance you have to cover when setting multiple nets....Let,s say, for instance, that you intend to set three fifty yard nets, a hundred and fifty yards in total. In goes the first pin and you walk fifty yards...you then walk back the same fifty yards pegging up...you then have to walk the same fifty yards again to get back to the end of the net to start on your next net. so you,ve trooped up and down the same FIFTY yards covering ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY yards.     Mole-catcher...excellent advice...in fact DOUBLE EXCELLENT advice on the importance of the belly of the net....in fact...if my memory serves me correctly....and rest assured...it normally does...isn,t that the exact same point that I made to you many months ago in one of our numerous hour long telephone calls, when you told me you were going to make a very shallow net and I explained that in my very humble opinion you need both running kill and height kill to make the net as effective as possible....interesting...very interesting....It,s nice to know that at least someone listens to me....

    Hi JT....it doesn,t sound like you,re slipping knots to me but rather you,re suffering from a case of "exageration" Which is something of a beginners curse. I suspect that you may still be working the rows of net from your original starting string...in other words you,re standing 6 yards back from whatever the net is secured against. I would rcommend that you thread another line five or six rows up from the last row of meshes and carry on only working a yard or so from that line at a time. This should help in ninety six different ways... but I can only think of three at the mo!!!... !] It sho

    Hi all...the reason that Wyman is critical of knotting the running lines to the end pins is because the runners should initially be just the one line...spliced together in one place. Obviously as the net gets used and rabbits bite through the bottom line, then additional joins will be made. There-in lies the reason for not tie-ing to your end pins...each join takes up a short length of line, which, with a free running line through the pins becomes self adjusting, with both lines being the same length...but with the knotted to pins method you have to add additional pieces of line to make up the

    The baskets are made by my very own fair hands and are very light in weight. I,ve passed some on to a few people on here to try, mine are the "mark 1" models...LOL but the last two I have sent have had a couple of refinements. Mine also have squared fronts which is what I,ve always used and although the net will catch at times when picking up..it,s no big deal. One of mine that I sent away has been made into a bow front, and a very good job it looks but as mine sit behind the front seats in the car then space becomes an issue. Regards Mapreader

I, like you mole catcher have never worked traditional with a pegger and runner but can see how a well versed pair could get nets set pronto like.Come to think of it...I feel sorry for those Suffolk rabbits... myxi...lampers and on top of all that two fellas that know their game hitting them with nets.     Hi Stubby...I don,t know of any dvd,s etc of that type. I,m self taught and the only way I learnt was by getting out there and doing it. You won,t catch much with a net if it ain,t in the feild...don,t wait to be perfect just get out and give it a go.     Sunday night and a mediocre wind from the sou-west was picking up , light rain was also forecast so I planned three drops, the first of 400 yds and the next two with 500. My mate was on one of his first time outings with me also. I usually only run 300 at this drop but the amount of rabbits I,d been seeing showed previously unoccupied buries were now being used. The drop isn,t straight forward but involves quit a few turns and we started to hit rabbits on the drop... in full holler mode!     Hi everyone...just my tuppence worth.. I have to say that it must be very confusing for anyone considering having a go at the longnetting game these days...when I first started we had two choices...end pins and hazel...or...hazel and end pins...you,re choice. Suddenly we were made aware of a different way to do things via the Trapline video. That was for me personally. Then, on the scene came the baskets...which for me upped my game.     Hello Micky, interesting..very interesting...had you said the track was a footpath ten foot wide along side a pheasant copse then I would have been very suspicious that you lived horribly close to me!!! LOL. The way I overcame the problem of setting nets is similar to what,s been touched on. My way was to use a short bar twice as thick as your net pegs, work the hole in at five yard intervals. The stuff the path was made of was real dark in colour so on each hole I circled it with white spray paint. Make sure you plan this part within a few days of when you are going to do the drop...altho
