F**k me does it matter why as everything got to be a competition :yahoo::yahoo::tongue2::tongue2:

If you mean me mate were did i mention a competition, this thread was started asking the question whats most hares caught in one day singled handed then you get the tit heads mentioning the minshaw strain why is this as this strain is for lamping not running in the day,WUNWIN how comes you say hares are unsporting and easy caught on the lamp then you admit running them on the lamp with your old bitch and if there that easy how comes you only caught one??? :icon_eek:

Where have i mentioned i have ever lamped a hare? i have caught hell of a lot more than one hare the bitch what i used to go coursing with had a broken leg at one year old i had it rebuilt and she could take the p*ss out of any of my mate or other people dogs no matter what x it was... it was the speed what she could run at obviously she didnt have much stamina as a suluki x it was the fastness what she could catch them :yahoo::icon_eek:

Stand by for the minshaw moment -10 out of 10 on tarmac runways . :11:

It was meant as a joke actually as I knew it wouldnt be long before the trumpet was blown .How can I be jealous of something I have never seen .Good luck to all this coming season .

ASD and Super striker, CALM DOWN, ITS JUST PEOPLES OPINIONS.

If I had dogs of the quality of your strain, im sure i wouldnt care what anybody thought/said about them.

As for lamped hares, each to their own own.

I have a lot of admiration for the Minshaw dogs(although im sure the current strains cannot be of the original standard) But in theory and practice the dogs with the biggest hauls of hares will have a good percentage of Saluki blood due to the stamina required. :)

if your in it for the sport, its not all about numbers.

As long as your out there, enjoying the peace & quiet of being away from home, then who cares how many you catch?

I would much rather be out in the sticks, having a bit of peace, enjoying the nature and come home with only one or two. Than sit at home watching telly doing piss all and getting bored.

Just enjoy yourself lads :good:

The original question was "What was the biggest number of hares caught in the winter", ASD wasnt even going to answer that question but then you get someone mentioning Minshaw so he answered. The answer to that was 17 lamped hares with Bulpa single handed and not in small brick wall fields, they were caught in fields were the greyhound coursing for the Scottish National was run and the most lamped hares in winter he has ever caught is 27 with 2 dogs running doubled up.None of our dogs have saluki in them they have mostly collie in them thats were they get their stamina from but then again if any saluki as caught bigger hauls like you say countryman then lets hear about them.

When you say about the original strain of Minshaw dogs,Victor Minshaws biggest haul was with Blue (who people say was the original Minshaw lurcher) and his son Rambo which was 24 hares. The dog we have now Jack, who is 9 year old,has killed 21 hares running with its half brother Patch, both sons of Bulpa and Bulpa was son of Blue. Which goes to prove they are not to far behind the original standard as you say but a bitch of ours called Jess, which was grand daughter to Blue ran with Gypsy,Jacks auntie, caught 27 hares which has been the biggest haul of ASD so far.

Obviously salukix or greyhound x might catch bigger number of daytime hares but it would be unfair to compare a saluki x with a minshaw dog has salulkix are more for daytime and minshaw dogs are lamping dogs.

Andrea

As i said within my post i have a lot of admiration for minshaw bred dogs, i only think that the strain is now diluted due to the neccessity to outcross,

As you say Andrea there is a big difference between daytime and lamped hares, i take nothing away from lamping dogs(these are all i own myself)But an event such as the Forley must be the ultimate test of a dog and to my knowledge the majority of these dogs are saturated with Saluki blood.

I really havnt got the time or energy to get into an argument

Thats true, btu i still think the ultimate test for a dog is a hre, and a hare is a hreder task by day than by night.

Otherwise the fofrey or the waterloo would be run at night?

This is just my veiw, i respect yours and as say the people that value a foxing lurcher or one that works with ferets more.

V well said mate agree with you 100% once watched a video it was called "one man and is dogs" he said he runs hares at night to give his dogs a chance because he couldnt catch them in the day. :yahoo::icon_eek:

my dog is a saluki x and caught 14 hares single handed whitch is 3 below bulba, and they were killed up your way, i didnt stop because my dog was tired, so to rule saluki x,s out is wrong,,,,,, in fact... the gh challenged me to a night lamping hares, when i accepted for £200 running solo on land were i go he refused, before this my dog had never lamped a hare. im not diggin at richard here, im just sayin he knows what sort of ground benefits his type of dog

sorry guys-daytime hares i meant.lamping hares is one thing but lamping them doubled up is another.they are very big numbers that people have had,but its not fair to run 2 dogs at nite on a animal that is worthy of a better chance

I LIKE TO SEE ONE DOG AND ONE HARE, AND A FAIR SLIP, LET THE HARE HAVE A START THATS WHEN YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A GOOD HARE DOG. I,M NOT BOTHERED IF THE HARE GETS AWAY, THERES NOTHING BETTER THAN SEEING A GOOD LONG COURSE FOR THE FIRST TIME. GETS THE BLOOD PUMPING, I HAVE A LOT OF RESPECT FOR THE HARE ITS A SHAME ABOUT THE BAN, COS THEY TASTE LOVELY IN A PIE WITH A BIT OF BLACK PUDDING AN ONIONS, HERES MY 13MONTHS OLD BITCH SHAME I WONT BE ABLE TO RUN HARES WITH IT,:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:

what is the most hares anyone has seen killed on one day-single handed and during winter time, what dog was it and how were they bred

This is the ORIGINAL QUESTION.Why have we gone off the rails. It does'nt mention lamped hares, if people think that lamped hares are with out doubt easier to catch than daytime hares they are kidding them selves,as you can have a go course with lamped hares. At the end of the day it's about having enjoyment from watching your dogs work not numbers IMO :good:
