steamingutpiles 117
My APBT bitch is just comining into season and I like to put a greyhound over her to get some "fast grabbers". Is anyone breeding these and if so any pic available and are they any good. Quote Link to post

Is anyone breeding these and if so any pic available and are they any good. i dont know of anyone who owns or works this cross, and i cant understand why anyone would.using american pitbull in lurcher breeding,is going backwards, not forwards.we should be striving to breed lurchers with brains, good feet, good coats, and less aggression, dogs like these cant be classed as allround hunters.if its pig hunting you do,then these would do the job, but each to their own.regards collie john. brock 11
i personally dont own this cross, but go out with many people that do,they are a good cross, and i dont know why people think they are not intelligent, because ive seen some that are very intelligent, some people see the dogs over keeness as stupidness i think.i would rather have a overkeen dog that doesnt catch than a not keen dog that wont catch Quote Link to post

Judging by your name i guess you like/keep collie X's. I suppose you right in you assumption that collie's are more intelligent but a good bull has got brains too. Its not as if they are dumb feckers. Also i'm sure the lads who keep bull X's would say what they lack in brain they make up for in determination. Feet are a problem on a lot of bulls admittedly. Coat...? It's no worse than any other smooth coated dog. They have skin thats as strong or stronger than any other breed so that is a plus. Aggression, well should we really be saying that bull X's are aggresive ? How many times do we hear "its the owners not the dogs". Also can you tell us what you want the dogs to be "less aggressive" against. I grew up with bull terriers of all descriptions and only saw one that was aggressive towards people and that was a result of its up bringing. And you bring up the 'golden egg' the all rounder....is there one ? A true one. I'm sure people far more experienced than me will have stories of collie X's that dont 'come up to scratch'. like i said each to their own,my friend owns a bullcross, but it has other blood in its make up.this breed came in the late eighties early nineties, but before then it was very rarely used.the staffordshire bull terrier was a popular cross especially with whippets, for some reason they have gone out of fashion.whats happened to the lurchers of old like collie crosses, bedlington crosses, whirrier crosses, these dogs did the job. you dont need big powerfull dogs to catch rabbits, hares , and do the odd fox or deer.each to their own. regards collie john. Guest sushie
To be honest these days the type of work that these crosses excel at is dodgy to say the least! goodluck with whatever you decide to do though mate! Quote Link to post

Guest dakersgazad
my dog looks more like a fooking staffie x than a bull x!! neva mind though lol Quote Link to post
juckler123 707
Some pit strains make better crosses than others look for a longer legged strain there will be little or no litter wastage the only fault ive seen with this cross is their feet pits feet seem o.k so look for a strain of greyhound with no foot trouble Quote Link to post

I think the reason many people use bull crosses is the guts and determination. And I think the inteligence of the breed is underated. Also many owners take a lot more than the "odd" fox and deer.
