J Darcy 5,871
Please dont over look the canon's. I have used a canon for nigh on twenty years now and rate them highly. The pics i have been taking in the past few years of wildlife are some of the best i have ever seen and i rate the canons above everything else. Their range of lenses are superb too and if its quality shots you are after then these cameras are the dogs danglies.... Sometimes its worth paying that little bit more.....JD

Canon has often been the preferred DSLR for professionals, probably due to the excellent autofocus sytem and the low noise levels. I'm impressed by the Nikon D700, but I've no plans to switch brands just yet

I have had sigma for years and iu still use the 150m macros 2.8 which is pretty darn sharp, but i will eventually get myself a 180 canon macro to compare......the L series are superb...just waiting to get a full frame camera now once the price falls low enough.......JD

MuttleMcTuttle 21
Gonna sound a numpty , but whats a full frame camera ? A "full frame" camera is one with a sensor the same size as 35mm film. Cameras like the Canon 5D & Nikon D700 are full frame. Explained here
kevegg 0
This might be a daft question but here goes- I have a Canon EOS300 and want to upgrade to digital. I have two lenses with it - a EF 75-300 and a 35-. Can these lenses be used if I buy a digital body. And what is meant when you mention noise? Kev.

Your EF lenses should work okay - some older lenses you can only use with manual focus & some sigma lenses need to be rechipped in order to work with digital. The man in the camera shop would know if you give him the lens model number "Digital noise" refers to the nasty coloured speckles you sometimes see on digital images. Like if you look at an area of blue sky at %100 view you'll see blotches of other colours, instead of all smooth blue shades, which will make the pic look a bit dirty, like a bad case of film grain. It's far less of a problem on DSLRs because of the larger sensor size. With compacts and phone cams, more mega pixels are crammed into a smaller sensor, which usually means more noise, leaving you with a fuzzy, grainy image. It shows up more in darker images, when you are using a long exposure or high ISO setting. If you are thinking of buying a Canon DSLR noise won't be an issue you have to worry much about

Corsahunter 0
I've got a contact on flickr that uses a Canon 1000D, the new "entry level" camera, and while it doesn't have the bells and whistles of the more expensive cameras, she still takes some of the most amazing photos I've ever seen. I was told by a pro photographer mate, to spend as much as you can on a good lens, as cameras will come and go, but if you're carefull with them, a lens can last a lifetime. Hence why I got my other half to rob a bank* and help me buy a 70-200mm ef f4 L IS USM lens. Though it's probably wasted on me.
