Allright people,

Just been out this afternoon for a little mooch with the dogs and beat some cover for the lurchers. One the way bk home with just the terrier pups and a rabbit got up in the middle of the field in front of my b+ t pup and he gave chase! Straight across the middle of the field and into the cover where he caught it. I have tried to keep them away from rabbits as I didnt want to spoil them as I want to use them for digging when they are old enough.

Do you think this may spoil him? As alot of people say you should keep them away from rabbits full stop. I would be gutted if I had as I have pup alot of time and money into him.

Yeh it is a risk mate the last thing any one wants is there terrier going to ground for a rabbit. I just hope it doesnt spoil him my mate reckons it shouldnt be a problem I am just going to keep him away from them as best as I can from now on.

Think the best thing to do with them is a bit of ratting I am going to invest into a smoker to do a bit of ratting over the coming months.

Don't worry about it mate, him killing a rabbit isn't gonna stop him from being a digging dog. You'll be sound mate, he's earned himself a meal in catching that rabbit, be happy :D .

Cheers lads thats a relief i was a bit worried at first, na he dont really bother with them but I think it was just because it got up infront of him in the middle of the field. Ya should of seen him coursing it across a stubble field lol it was a picture. He ran it into the cover and caught upto it in there.

how much do u expect to pay for a smoker huntinglad?did u try a chainsaw with a pipe off it? never tried smoking myself ,just digged

Think they are about 50 quid in the countrymans mate. Na I have never tried a chainsaw my mates have though and said they are good. But unless you have got an old chainsaw its no good is it.

Send that black dog down here before you spoil it with bunnies!

If its any comfort to you, my 6yr old bitch will nail anything fur or feather, you just need to be able to read the dog, know what its looking at...........then thrash the skin off its back!

I've got a smoker you can use, its just taking space up at mine.

Nah...I reckon that black pup should come to my kennels, I've got just the work for a strong dog like that... :drink::thumbs:

I like bushing with terriers for exercise and to keep boredom to a minimum I like a bit of bushing the more a terrier is out and about the better, its not bushing that will make a dog go to ground on rabbits its the frustration of being banged up in a kennel all the time that will cause u most problems jmho
