inan 841
As the weather was rather nice today i decided to go ferreting today instead of tomorrow .I arrived just after 11 and I let the dogs have a little run about first to let of some steam,I picked up the ferrets and started off to catch up with the dogs who had gone ahead sniffing around ,when I caught up with them it was obvious someone had beat me to the rabbits there were signs that someone had been ferreting there .So with a temper rising I marched along the field down into the hollow where I know there are always rabbits ,to my shock 2 youths were there and one of them was digging :realmad: ,my gobby bedlington was going crazy barking at them at this point and when I appeared in view with the other dogs they decided to do a runner leaving behind 5 rabbits and 4 nets ,as I was picking up my freebees what comes toddling out of a hole but a lovely little albino jill a little thin but rather friendly ,So in the end not a bad day ,the little ferret has settled well into her new home and tucking into a huge fat pigeon for tea with her new mates :icon_redface: come on now young lads what harm were they doing . there not out robbing old granys . your right there they doing no harm at all just hunting rabbits like the rest of us do only they now not got a ferret or nets soome one has stolen them Don't think you can steal what's been abandoned. As a kid I ferreted ground that I didn't have permission on eg railway embankments etc but I wouldn't have left my ferrets behind for anyone. Quote Link to post
whippet 99 2,613
I think if you look up on the law of land owners you will see that the land owner owns the rabbits on his land. In our local paper there was 2 lads last week was in court for (POACHING) Each getting a fine and a criminal record. And to add they was convicted also for carrying a knife. as they didnt have permision to be on that land. i dont see the landowners name on any rabbit on there land . could always run the other side of the hedge its wild nobody owns them, years ago they beleived any wild animal on there land was theres i had a pheasant come in my garden the other day , i didnt shoot it because it had a collar saying LORD BATHS 2 A CERTAIN EXTENT PHEASANT ARENT WILD , THEY WERE REERED IN CAPTIVITY, THERE OWNED 2 A CERTAIN EXTENT BUT NO WILD ANIMAL HAS A NAME ON IT You didnt shoot it because it is out of season back at the beginning of january Quote Link to post

Guest Bennybhoy
If they ran off and left their gear they are gutless little pricks, especially running off from a woman! Ive never took off and left a ferret to ground when Ive been on bits I shouldnt be in the past, in fact a few times its been the other way around, Ive been a woman on my own and guys have come over to me to give me hassle, keepers/farmers etc. The lads should have stood their ground, not agressively, they could have just said that they werent leaving til their ferret emerged and I am sure Sue, or anyone else would have respected them more for that, it shows responsibility for their actions. If you put a ferret or terrier to ground then its your duty to either dig it out or stay til it re-emerges IMO sarah we dont even know what age the weans are.and i would run away from you on your permission.lol Quote Link to post
