wag 13
well, i have been reading some of the other lads threads about their day out, so i thought i would put my contribution up . i spoke to the keeper last night to see if it was still ok for us to go today... and it was. we aranged to meet at 8.30 at the same place as last tuesday . we got there for the arranged time and he was waiting, had a chat and set off to the other side of the farm where we were not allowed to go tuesday because they were shooting friday .. when we got there , i could not believe my eyes the amount of ground was unreal and the terrain, we parked up at the first wood we came to, got kitted up and off we went, we was walking through the first wood got about half way down and 2 foxes bolted out a big bramble heading away from us hmm the keeper said ,thats not good no i said . anyway, we got to where there was some earths and we let my lakeland bitch enter the earth she was gone for about 5 min and was out again nothing was home , we carried on doing a few more earths with there also being nothing home letting the pup run a couple of empty earths to . we carried on into the next wood where we came to a false earth where my lakeland bitch was entered again she was in for about 15 seconds and a fox bolted out the other end, the keeper didnt see it come out until i shouted fox, he spun round and shot and missed .then aload of came from him , i thought ..my bitch came out and was looking about for it... but it had gone . we moved on further down the wood checking a couple more false earths with there being nothing home .. we got to the end of the second wood and looked out, i spotted 2 more foxes running up to another wood on the next hill , he said thats our wood we can go over to it ,i said if we go round to the left doing the other green belts and woods, we will be walking into the wind in stead of us walking through with the wind in our backs and then they would not smell us coming i thought . then his phone rang and he said, i have to go but can you carry on then i will come back to you, no problem i said he gave me some directions where we could go and where we could not go and off he went .we carried on working our way round to the next wood and feck me if we did not see another fox running down the side of a hedge towards the same wood where the other 2 was heading , i looked at my mate and said i dont believe this, niether do i he said .so we carried on walking checking more false earths and holes on the way round . we got to the biggest wood started to walk through it checking more earths as we went through it but nothing at home again we couldnt believe it.by this time we had done half a dozen woods and walked about 5 miles and seen about 7 foxes and still nothing for the terriers.when we got to the end of the big wood my mate had enough of walking and wanted to walk back to the truck so with there being three more woods to walk i went off on my own with the terriers while he went back to the truck . i did the next 2 woods seeing another fox running in the distance at that time i was right pissed off for myself and the dogs.as i walked up to the last wood i could see a fox running in to it but i did not get my hopes up and i am pleased i didnt because i walked it twice and we did not find anything . so all in all over the day we see about a dozen foxes but we didnt end up with anything only a bad back and bad knees from all the walking but it will be a memorable day and i think it has to be real cold weather next time i go up there because with the sun shinning and it being mild it looks like all the foxes were on top .
