sue 1
My best friend the good old tumble dryer ,has been sounding a little rough lately and some times stops turning .Been clever i took the back off ,and the motor seemed very hard to turn . A bright idea came into my head so i thought i would find some grease out of the shed and put some around the spindle to work into the motor ,hoping that would help it, wrong  ,the dam thing caught fire ,I have never moved so fast at furniture removal .Its now smoking away on the back garden flames everywhere. The moto to this kind of problem is to leave it to the experts ,or like now go and buy a new one .So im sat here freezing with all the windows open to get rid of the smell.I can laugh about it now but it could have been serious as it was hard to grab hold of it to move the dam thing outside so i could have had the house on fire . mad al 146
I remember someone we know putting the washing machine to go while they were out, the idea being that it would have finished by the time they got back. Utility room was ablaze when they returned

Malt 379
Sounds like you had a bit of a fright there Sue mate! I remember when we first got a tumble dryer, not long after we moved in here. We got it second hand with a 6 month guarantee from a home electrical place. After the wife had done a few loads, it started smoking like a bitch, filling the little utility room with smoke. As soon as I got in from work the wife told me, so I told her to phone the shop up. Well she phoned them, and gave them all sorts of abuse down the phone, not foul mouthed, polite but fierce as only an enraged Scotswoman can! The shop send someone out sharpish, and the wife bollocked the poor bugger as soon as he got through the door, telling him off for selling things that were dangerous, etc. After about 10 seconds off looking at it, he straightened up, and said to the wife: "It might help if you clean the lint out of the filter every now & then ....!" :icon_redface:
