mattydski 560
Started the day with the knowledge that the weather could turn bad. It was very windy, but dry when we left Dundee at about 10.15. I dont noramly call in to see the landowner, but seeing as we were working round the house today, i called in to wish him happyh new year and tell him not to worry about gunshots. It is a beautiful country house onthe banks of the River Tay near Perth. I would have taken pictures for you, but by this time the rain had started. So first up we netted a two holer, put a collar on one of my jills and sent her down. We waited for about 10-15 mins before i took a measurement at 16+feet on the mk3. We covered the area with the shotties, but i think tshe was getting the run around to be honest. Eventually she came back out and we netted up a three holer, close bye. Again, it was another deep waren, showing 12 ft on the indicator. I hadnt got my shottie out at this point, but a rabbit missed the nets and went to the other warren we had netted. This took Mr A completely by surprise and unfortunaltely he missed behind. My jill surfaced, and immediately went back down. Another Rabbit flushed to the surface, again finding refuge from Mr A's shots in the nearest rabbit warren. She came out as if to repremand us, but no more shows from that hole. By this time horrizontal rain and gales had set in. But undettered I netted up a 9 holer under the owners lawn. We had one show to a purse net, which was quickly dispatched. Another bolted from a missed hole, but was unshootable, due to safety. It was that bad, we were weighting the purse nets down with stones and rocks to keep them on the holes Our clothes were by soaked through to the skin, and the equipment saturated, no pictures to day i never got the camera out of the bag. Still undeterred, we sat in the landy to have a bite to eat and a drink. This time we thought we would go out to some of the extremeties of the farm that we dont normally shoot. The rain was stinging our faces by now, so we took the jills and and shotties and the locator, no nets. We walked for a mile or so looking for warrens around the hedge rows but found nothing. It was then that I was lucky enough to see a Hare get up, I closed the Beretta took aim and hit it with the second shot at about 30-40 yards. I think at the same time Mr A fired his first. We carried on walking but found no more warrens. It was then we decided to quit whilst ahead. Packed up and went home. Total bag for the day 1 Hare, 1 Rabbit, 2 wet ferrets, 2 soaked Berettas, 2 soaked sportsman, and a 25 mile trip home to get dried out. Its blowing a houlie out there now Quote Link to post

Theres a thought My deepest dig is the one pictured with the spade, the depths mentioned on this post were for information purposes. I would have been seriously worried if i got a kill in a stop end in one of those. I would never even consider entering my hobs in to any of these holes.. I'd be there all week getting them back.
