My Mother used to suffer with it but she used Naproxin (spelling) and it worked for her. I looked it up on tinternet and got her some tablets but her doctor said she should not take it cos she was old.

Dont know why but it was not that that she died of promise.

Go back to the doctors is my advice and see a different doctor, second opinion. ;)

My hubby has it down his left side, he's had cortisone injections and physio but it still gives him agro. He has been off work now for nearly 2 years and the doctors rekon sometime this year they will sign him back but his old employers made him redundant so he'll have a time finding a job with things the way they are.

Not sure if it is the same, but a girl that works for me has just had surgery to enlarge the passage where the sciatic nerve passes between the Vertebrae??

It was pretty straightforward for her, She is back at work after 4-5 weeks and feeling much better now, She is definately more able than she was before and alot happier.

I think she would reconmend the surgery if it is the same.

that sounds like the same problem we are talking about ,where the disc has slipped and like you say made the passage smaller and the nerve rubbs against the disc and the nerve becomes inflamed causing the pain.i think i will try the injection again and if theres still no change consider having the op.has anyone used chiropractice?

I sympathise with all of you that have this I had it and it was awful.

I had it so bad that I lost feeling in my lower leg, but the pain above it was just dreadful, I couldnt do anything. I waited and waited for a referral from my GP, in the end I paid to see a private specialist. The NHS waiting list for an MRI scan was 3-6mths, the waiting list private? 3/4 of an hour! So i paid and had it done. It showed a severely herniated disc plus a couple others "bulging" but not serious, the herniated disc had spilled out, pushed onto the sciatic nerve which in turn pressed onto the spinal cord, this had caused the "no feeling" and much of the pain. A wait for surgery which was my only option for a good outcome was at least 6-9mths, again I went private, less than a week later! Ironically the same surgeon would of done it on the NHS!!

The effect was immediate, NO PAIN!!! Honestly it was amazing and still is! I totally recommend it, in one day out the next! Im a bit stiff in the morning for about 1/2hr but thats it, I can walk miles, dont get aches when I stand around, can get up and down from the floor etc.. with no pian at all.

I was on Diclofenac and Co-Codamol and was going to be put on morphine patches if I had to wait on the NHS gladly I didnt.

I still have the MRI scans if anyone wants to see what goes on in these slipped discs and Ill aslo gladly share the costs etc.. it may be a lot cheaper than you think and you can get relief yourselves quickly.

Ive suffered since i was 23 and im 40ish now.Chiropracters can work miracles and diclofenac (voltarol) does help.Best advice i can give you is to improve your posture and if you are doing any physical activity warm up slowly and thoroughly first.I wear a lumber brace at work just as a precaution and it does help protect your lower back when you get lazy and lift things the wrong way.
