nbk 0
i think its ok just once its a proven worker not just cause he looks good or that he person who owns him just wants a quick buck Quote Link to post
NIGHTSHADOW 3
Lets take your dog. I have been watching him since the day you first put him on here. You and your dog have proven so many people wrong. Why? Because of the Hancock lable your dog was dismissed. Yet you and you alone, turned that dog into one everyone would love to have. It has size, it has looks, it has proven itself in the field on all game. What more can you ask for? I would be looking for a stud dog like your' s next year, to put to my 50X50 COLLIE /GREY. So if you are thinking of putting it up for stud, please put my name down for next year. Keep up the good work. The photos of him seem to have stopped lets get them back. All the best N/S Quote Link to post
woodard 32
need to be top of there game for me to breed anything out of any dog thats why so many breeds have gone down the drain Quote Link to post
Mars 42
From what i`ve read and seen of your threads then your dog I.M.O would be a suitable stud dog as going from your posts he`s certainly seen some work and is a very capeable dog... Some say though that a large percentage of a dogs working instinct is inherited from the dam, So i would say that if your planing on a replacement for your own dog i`de be sure of the dam you`d be using.. woz 260
theres far to much bull shit now with what the breeding of the dog is..it must be bull x collie grey etc etc...the quicker we get back to lurcher to lurcher x's with decent dog getting put over decent dog the whole sport will benifit............if your dog is doing well it is your duty to pass on some quality if you are serious about the future of the sport.......you go for it...there will all be w*nkers that will slag you off......think they say "thems that shout the loudest" Quote Link to post
Chid 6,819
personnaly i dont think a dog should be put up for stud just for any one to use over any dog i slated you WH for wanting to put your dog over the grey and i still would if you asked my opinion on that now if you was to wait till next season and line a VERY GOOD collie grey weather it be half x of 1/4 x i'd say go ahead to me a 2 yr old dog isnt proven enough even though you may of ran everything and doing it all with the dog id only breed to keep a pup or 2 back for myself and then sell the rest to cover the cost of the breeding £100/£150 pounds for a lurcher where both parents are proved is plenty enough to pay. Lurcherlovr 0
I think that any dog that is to be bred from has to prove itself in whatever field that the dog is in, whether its for hunting or showing or whatever the pups will be used for, I have pets but I would never breed from as to me they are not worthy in my eyes no matter how much I love them, if your dog is a great worker, then I would try to find a bitch that is a equally good worker or even a better one, as like other people say look at the dogs where people just breed any dog to any dog, the dogs are not benefiting from it, and I feel about saying about the dogs in homes, there are a lot of Lurcher's in rescues so I really feel that a dog has to have proven itself to be bred from imo. Rocks 77
Me and my wife talked about this very topic, after years with collies breeding trailing and working all that she wanted was a stud dog that people would breed to. When she produced one that is all are genetics and is proven both at home and at trails she started to get the calls pouring in and I mean that literally she won a cow dog trail and we received a least six calls that night to breed to the dog. I said no the bitches were not good enough, well that is were the discussion began. I asked her if she wanted to own any of the bitches that people wanted to breed and she said no. So then we get to why did the people want to breed to the dog two reasons to sell pups and to improve there own dogs. Well if someone wants to buy pups they can buy them from her we did not put the time into the dogs for someone else to make the money. If the people want to improve there dog buy a pup from us and raise and work it yourself if it lives up to the standards that they have then they can breed it and do what they want with the pups. It seems that if someone owns the bitch and the pups do not turn out they blame the male. If you are breeding to improve your dog and are doing it on emotion do not breed spay your bitch. And the final reason we do not stand studs is I in no way want someone else's pet at my house when it is in heat and retarded, fighting , howling and barking. Quote Link to post
TOMO 29,110
i would personly like to see more from your dog WH, we know he is catching a cerian amount of your chosen quarry species, but what about the other stuff , you say yourself you have limited suplies of rabbits and hares. get him doing numbers on them , see how he is after a few seasons with regard to injurys. 2 year old is still a pup. see where you are after 4 year. theres a dog in earth dog running dog , at stud its 18 month old wheaton cross and last of all WH the fact its hancock bred is going to be negative thing , theres still atot of people out there that want there dogs to come from a long line of workers rather than , just 1 in the middle that yours may become. im shure if you did breed him you would have a long line of young impressionable hunters on here wanting a pup as hes a good looking animal, but looks arnt evrything , you should know that Quote Link to post
