Recommended Posts

i,ve been doing a bit of fox shooting ,well holding the lamp really ....my friend does the shooting .....22 hornet with a bipod ....but using the bipod is a disadvantage as your too low to the ground....what do you guys do ?

are you better shooting off sticks?

at the midland i saw a set of sticks ....double attached together ....did anyone else see them and have any info on them....thanks

the grounds so up and down every time we got down ...the man with the lamp had a clear view but not the man behind the gun just couldnt get a view......had one in a potato field and it kept peeping over the top of the furrows...there was four on one farm but they,d obviously been lamped before...might try a bit of baiting up

I also use a .22 hornet on fox, where poss i use the bipod as this is most accurate especially for longer shots, for closer shots i normally shoot free hand, if bipod cannot be used , i have a single telescopic stick ( hikeing type ) which i have fitted with a rod rest vee at the top and it has a spike at the bottom and this can be sunk into the ground for extra stablity really good piece of kit :clapper: how many you had with the hornet? how do you rate it?

Cheers

Try as I might, I can't shoot accurately using sticks. Other people can

I am trying to come to terms with sticks: i've got X3M1 tripod & made a "Bi-Fur Pod" as per Varmintals site but find I am more accurate with a Harris 13-27 bipod used fully extended from kneeling position for quick shots.

Tim get an old inner tube and cut the fecker into strips/rings. You`ll need two rings wrapped around the top of the sticks to keep them from being sloppy at the top.

You`ll be able to turn the gun left or right marginally for target movement unlike fixed commercially made one`s.

Plus they cost feck all so if you need to dump them or they get damaged it`s of no great loss ;)

If you really want to go for it then put another rubber ring wrap 1/4 way up one staff this will stop the two from clunking together and then drill and fix a self tapper screw through a washer in bottoms to stop them from splitting..

Can also be used for Deer control

Coming to this one a bit late and not read all the responses but it's not a matter of sticks or no sticks ...it's a matter of "Do I need Sticks for this Land"

I have a selection of different height Bipods and will always utilise anything else sensible for support when I am out. I don't have any, nor do I really have a requirement for, any sticks.

YES, there are times when I could definately have used then and could not take a shot because I didn't, but trade this off with carting them around all over the place for the occassional shot and ...."I can always shoot it tomorrow" comes to mind.

Look at your land and ask yourself the question!!.....and of course, as has already been said you don't have to be a rocket scientist to make some to give it a try

I have walked for day`s Deker carrying those poxy sticks without even putting the gun on the fecking things.. But there one of the first things i put in the motor..

No disrespect to you but obviously you dont do much Deer control because this is where the sticks become a very import piece of equipment ;)

Then there`s the time when your out lamping with the keeper and you spot that troublesome fox but not having the sticks there that you need at that one time you calmly explain to the keeper "you can allways shoot it tommorow"

Be prepared to engage the target at every opportunity and pretend to be the pro that your not ;)
