Squirrel_Basher 17,102
This afternoon i decided on a visit to a farm that has a fair population f roe but they tend to travel between this farm and next door so its a bit hit and miss as far as stalking goes .Havnt been out here for a while so hopes were high .The usual holding spot is a large field with a pylon in the middle ,a swamp down the bottem and a earth bank to one side ,I approached this area cautiously and had a good glass spotting only a buck in the next field ,a good buck too[ so where was he a month ago ].Skirted around the area to do a boundary walk whereby i can view well ahead and take in every field as i pass them .Nothing ,although a fair amount of sign ,beds, slots and droppings .The far end of the farm takes me to a derelict farmhouse ,the ground of which now belongs to the farm im allowed to stalk on.I glassed this land and found no less than 7 deer up against a hedge ,all lead down in the sun. From what i could make out it was 3 does ,a buck and 3 buck kids nearly full grown .The only approach to this field was around the back of the derelict buildings and as i did so ,i startled a fox asleep on some old straw in a barn .Watched him slink away in no particular hurry .Around what used to be a slurry pit and down a fence line, keeping low until i found a break in the rusty old wire .I slid through on my belly and glassed again .No movement from the deer so i used the new range finder to see what i had .163 metres to the furthest doe which meant a left eyed shot to allow me to see them with the good eye !. The furthest doe suddenly got to her feet and stared up the hedge,at what i couldnt see but i shot her through the chest and put the cross hairs on the next does head and bang ,over she went .No reaction from the others at all ,thanks to the t8 mod .Shot the 3rd doe also in the head .Still they sat and it wasnt until i got up that they arose and moved off through the hedge .Ranged the fallen at 164,162 and 162 again .Paced them at roughly 180 so just goes to show .Gralloched them all and was just cleaning my hands in the grass when i noticed movement towards a gate and on looking up saw a chap approaching flanked by two coppers .They werent no more than 50 yds so i must of had my back turned .An allegation of poaching had been made by the chap in plain clothes but all i could do was look down at the younger coppers feet .He had shoes on and his black socks and trousers bore the signs of the season up to about a foot up the leg .I was trying not to laugh as the older one asked for my name and who gave me the permission .I managed to compose myself enough to tell them the answers and that i had written permission in the truck .As the truck was only two fields away ,the younger copper was asked to accompany me to verify this .Well ,id like to say i took him the dry route but i never and the tide mark had grown by a good 2 inches when we got to the truck He read out my written note on the radio and the other copper called him back . When i got back ,the other chap who had remained quiet ,upped with a camera ,tele-photo lens and all and took a pic of my face to which i took offence and said so .The older copper asked to see what hed taken and fair play to him ,ordered the twat to delete no less than 16 pics of yours truly . I watched as they sauntered back to the gateway they came through and i was left woundering what had just occured?.Down at the farm i told the farmer and he was certain it was a local anti that regularly rang him up when we were lamping . Thinking back ,that doe stood up undoutably because she heard the approach of the keystone cops . Good job those pics were deleted as i might of found myself in the leagues hall of fame ,again . Fecking halfwits with feck all better to do .Should of been charged with wasting police time and for a new set of strides and socks in black .
