Escort Magnum 12g

Recommended Posts

Ok....just bought my lad a brand new Escort Magnum, 5 days and about 40 shots later the choke disintegrated and the barrel end ballooned in a very worrying fashion.

Obviously went back and replacement collected today.

We all know this is a rare event (especially as the gun is proofed to 3" magnum) but the more I think about it the luckier I am to be alive, as most of the time he was shooting it I was stood at his side..the barrel could only have been 1 or 2 shots at the most from blowing up!

The distributors have replaced it fairly quickly (8 days) but not so much as a sorry, I think a little more humility and compensation could be in order....

.....your views appreciated!!!

It may be worth making your views know to the distributer rathen than the seller.

A word to the customer service department expressing your concerns would not go amiss.

If no 'compo' appears, escalate it to the next level of complaint.

They should eventually cave in.....

How on earth that gun passed a 3" Magnum and 3" High Performance Steel Proof, worries me greatly!

You were lucky Deker, the thing of mixing 12 and 20 bore shotguns is bad enough, blow the chambers, maybe loose a finger at worst.

But the rest of the barrel? The shot and shrapnel could have been anywhere.

Im Glad you were alright, but I'd want a Full Proof House examination and report put together, and I'd want a very sincere apology from the company.

I have an Escort Auto there and I use it with all loads from Marsh stuff to 2 3/4 clay loads.

Get intouch with them and the Proof House if I were you. They are Birmingham Proofed ;)

My suspicions are that it was the choke at fault, when that started to fail and disintegrate the pressure mounted on the barrel.....but it was proofed (apparently going back to proof house for report)...so I am after more info/compensation/apology...this may go on for a while!!

My brother bought one three years ago. He HATES it, had a fair bit of bother with it, nothing dangerous but jams and the locking nut locked on one occasion  . It hardly fits him, (does it really fit anyone with such a short stock???) but the strange thing is, he hardly misses anything with it! thats why he still has it.

Eh - Up, Ere we go, calm down and steady on everyone.......I admit and accept it is not the best gun in the world....I knew this when I bought it,,,but is has spacers to adjust the butt drop/cast and 3 additional spacers to adjust the length of pull...on top of this it is multi choke, (5 supplied) 3" Magnum and under £300 brand new!!!!

The gun is my lads, he has grown up and learnt on my collection of Berettas over the years, but this is all black, stylish and the sort of thing that young lads fancy...and he chose it.

It was accepted, discussed and agreed by all up front, that this was not the best gun in the world, but it was also accepted that as HIS first shotgun it was one to learn from and really decide the good, bad, indifferent bits and build on that when buying his next.

The reality is Birmingham proofed this and something has gone wrong, terrifying, but we got away with it this time!

Financially I can't loose more than £300 on it...seems a reasonable starting point!!
