Simoman 110
You are limited in your options if the dog is entire. 1. Keep them seperate 2. Get the bitch jabbed 3. Breed a litter Option two would perhaps be best?
Irish Lurcher 1,013
Put her on the pill. No honest. If you can keep her in-doors all the better, or just keep her in the pen on her sweeney. Should be simple enough.

Simoman 110
The "contraceptive" injection can be administered by your vet and will prevent her coming into season. I don't know of any side affects and its not permanent.
Malt 379
1. Keep them seperate Excellent idea, would'nt it be great if more people thought of that. I agree, it's not rocket science is it?
stubby 175
get a chastity belt for her , but option 2 sounds better, failing that option

I agree, it's not rocket science is it? I think he was being sarcastic!! Meaning it was a pretty daft answer! If i could keep them seperate i would. And optiob 2 isnt an opinion. As i have now spoke to 3 vets about it, and it is said to be quite danger to stop a dog haveing a season, as it traps all the toxins in her body...
Guest hpool_hunter
option 1 then . ... unless : you can do without your bitch for the beginning of season starting , you have the space and time and money to cope with a litter of pups , is she worth having a litter of pups , do you have a suitable dog to put over her ? do you reckon you can find homes for the pups ? .. all questions need answering before considering breeding . and if your asking a forum what to do , then id saftly go with option 1 ... Can't you beg/borrow/buy a cage which you put up in another room for the bitch to go in while she's in season? I've currently got a couple of bitches in season: they get caged in my study for the duration, and get taken out separately to the dogs. It's only for 3 weeks after all. If your'e not going to breed then it is unfair on both, especially the dog, and you as well LOL to leave them together and keep shouting at the dog to leave the bitch alone, oh, and by the way: it only takes a second for a keen dog with good aim to get locked with a bitch! lurchergrrl 1,441
I don't intend to ever breed off mine ... even if she turned out to be a world beater (which I highly doubt ) there's enough good dogs around. I've decided to spay her before her season, as she's not had one yet and is 10 months old. She goes in next week. I can't cope with a bitch in season living in the house, and having to keep her on lead for three weeks - she would drive me mad. Borrow a cage off someone so you can separate her for a bit. Or have you a mate with a bit of kennel space you could use?
