ferreterni 29
How do people work their dogs and ferrets together? How do they get on? My jrt plays with em in the yard and will take them biting her and chewing on her without a sound, but I my bull wheaten greyhound, who is broken to ferrets but not worked with them met my new hob kit today. Who promptly bit the dog on the nose after that the dog started to run off when ferret came near haha so much for a tough bull cross. Good for ferreting dog to avoid them I suppose and the jrt is super friendly and marks them in holes and marks kills etc. just be interesting to know , how do our dogs get on with ferrets, how do you work them keep them together etc Lot of threads about dogs, and ferrets. but not seen many about ferreting dogs in particular. Rhodey 96
My dog hates the ferrets he's 11 and hadn't seen a ferret till these two turned up. Quote Link to post
AL BUNDY 45
YOUR FERRETS SHOULD BE BROKEN TO DOGS SAME AS DOGS TO FERRETS Quote Link to post
stubby 175
our bitch jrt gets on great with ferts, she'll mark holes, and even let us know what hole the bolting rabbit or fert will appear at, but our dog jrt, we could never trust, as a ratter, he'd go for a fert as soon as you turn your back Quote Link to post
ferreterni 29
My jrt 100% with ferrets, lurcher turns out is bit yellow with em haha My terrierX spaniel is ok, but a bit excitable, not harmfull at all just to big to play with em, and the collie is obedient enough to leave em alone but I lifted ferret in front of it the other day and she jumped up a bit, needs a bit of work with em. what do you all expect of a ferreting dog? Terrier or lurcher, or any breed? edited due to bad spelling Edited August 20, 2008 by ferreterni Quote Link to post
Neal 1,930
All three of my dogs get on fine with the ferrets but each views them differently. One seems to see them as tiny dogs and likes to play with them, one respects their space and gives them a wide berth when they emerge and the other seems to see them as one of my "stock" if that makes sense. By this I mean that she keeps an eye on them in the same way as she does with the bantams eg when I'm cleaning them out she'll wait by the rabbit hutch that I put them in while their larger hutch is being cleaned. As a result, she's a bit better than the other two at marking ferret-inhabited buries. Quote Link to post

Guest ferretlad
I introduce my pup's to my Ferret's as soon as they have had their second jab, and my dog's are in my Ferret shed every day while i see to them, this way both Ferret and dog's are in close contact with each other daily and never had a problem yet. Guest Leveller
My Lurcher admires ferrets and knows they're a definite no no! but she's fine with that because she knows when the ferrets are out it equals runs and lots of mouthfuls of fur. Quote Link to post
