dawnraider 2
is it possible for kits to get too fat, mine are 6 weeks old and proper little barrels, but they are having trouble getting there arse end of the ground,i am sure there back legs are fine at 4 1/2 weeks they were quite normal and mobile .is it a case of as they grow they get stronger or could i have trouble ahead or could it be they are just too heavy at the moment. sue 1
what are you feeding them on, because kits on dried ferret food tend to get rather fat .I limit the amount of dried i put in with kits Quote Link to post

Kay 3,709
i knew either stubby or kay would come to the rescue lol i feed 1 fresh rabbit to 9 kits every evening and leave it with them over night and they strip it they also get about 1/2 kilo of pet mince in the morning and clear that as well .i dont put dry in for them yet and they are also drinking from the bottle now fat little feckers lol well providing there not obese , never seen an obese kit ever, there growing & you have gien them the best start they could have, if there hungry they will eat it, once they start charging about all over the place they will soon seem less podgy & seem more toned Also as theres a few there you will find a bit of sibling rivalry so if you take that into account as well they will goble it all up to stop the others having it all Quote Link to post
stubby 175
Id say that was rather a lot, but everyone has different views, I would say a rabbit per 9 adults, but kitts, Id halve the rabbit, as your also doing a lb of mince, Quote Link to post
The one 8,592
I wouldn't worry about them ,I believe you should pump the good grub in when there small as they need it for growing producing bones ect. If they are a bit chubby they will soon burn that off running about later Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Mine went to look right fat b'stards, but they soon started burning it off when they started running round fighting each other. Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
i agree with stubby i would either half the rabbit or not feed the mince ......... Quote Link to post
dawnraider 2
thanks for the replies and advice, will cut down the food a bit,i have noticed it is only 3 of the largest boys that are having problems getting about, dragging or shuffling there back legs so i asked a friend to take a look he thinks they may have a deficiency of some sort so there not developing properly he advised that i should give them something called lactol as a supplement what do you think. stubby 175
well thats just a milk supplement, which may give them the shits, or put more weight on them, Quote Link to post
The one 8,592
You want to bin the mince it's not got enough gooness in it for young ferrets and just feed the rabbit . A couple of years back i raised two litters of kitts on pet mince the turned out like seals the vet put the lot down at a £1 apiece he reckoned the mince was only ground up muscle and didn't contain the protien etc they needed for growth Quote Link to post
