Not much else to be honest, Subs I find are best and work nice with the mods. High velocity are ok, cheep n cheerful but more of a crack even with a mod.

Some people use high velocity for close range foxing but I would not recommend unless you are absolutely certain on the shot placement.

Happy Hunting...

to be honest i have a fox den that needs clearing . luckily i can get hidden away and have a clear 40 yard shot of the fox family as they pop out . i have already dropped 2 with the subsonics but wanted to find then try some high velocity rounds . any suggestions on a h v round ?

I'd keep using the subsonics to be honest. Never found HV rounds to be as accurate in my rifle as subs, and they're noisy. But to answer your question these are the brands I've tried, and been unhappy with all of them :D

RWS High Velocity hollow point (copper washed bullets), Winchester High Velocity Superspeed hollow point (copper washed bullets), CCI Velocitor (copper washed bullets), Eley High Velocity (not copper washed), Remington Hyper velocity Yellow Jacket, Remington .22 Cyclone Hi-Speed hollow point.

Personally I would be more confident using subs over a fox den than HV rounds, but everyones milage varies.

i wouldnt bother with hv rounds there not that accurate i think and even if you get the odd accurate grouping i still dont think there that consistant.

I wouldn't recommend using a .22 for fox, everyone can pull a bad shot off, yes at close range they will kill them, but I'd rather go overkill with room for error than underkill with no room for error and a chance of an injured animal.

I'll second that, I was going to go into more details but it's very succinctly put. There's very little space these days for a supersonic 22LR, HMR is so much better in every way with roughly the same level of noise.

Whilst there are all sorts of arguements for using a bigger calibre I go along with John here!

At 40 yards, a 40g HP Sub is devastating into a fox, it will peel back like a mushroom do a lot of damage and has every chance of imparting all its energy rather than going all the way through. In addition, at 40 yards, you should be able to put subs in the same hole!!!

I have used a lot of high velocity in the .22LR but NOTHING gives the accuracy of Subs. Also remember "most" .22LR are 1-16 twist and subs tend to be around 1050ft sec. High Velocity can get as high as 1750ft sec, although most are between about 1250-1500...in simple terms the twist rate does not favour them!!!

I'd go along with Mr L on this, my .22LR is almost exclusively a sub tool now...for more grunt go with .17HMR, it is designed for FAST(ish) ammo and is usually 1-9 twist, very flat and accurate!

For longer range also consider the centrefires of course!!!
