Grazed Nettles

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

On one of my permissions I have noticed heavy grazing of nettles......

Its at the top of a steep bank on a busy roadside and not a passing point for deer or any other large animal. No cows for miles and sheep several fields away. No horses either, nothing but rabbits.

Anyone else seen this? I haven't noticed it before, usually the rabbits seem to use the nettles as cover.

HH all.

Looks like someone's been there with a machete or bill hook. Are there any burys in that area?

Yes, loads...its a permission I have wanted for a while. Its quite inaccessible and I'm fairly sure no one has been in with a blade of any kind. But will rabbits eat nettles?

Cheers.

Theres caterpillars that will eat nettles but not the stalks ,rabbits must be hard pushed to eat nettles .Isn't it more likekly to be the farmer ?? passing by with a machine and just clipping the edge of the patch ???
