Trout fishing

Alright lads, need some help.

Been into fishing since i was real young but have been into sea fishing seriously for about a year

Been reading the threads about Trout fishing and its really got me interested

Got a shed load of different rods here and a good reel.

Fly fishing isn't my thing so I'd be using a fixed spool, what length of rod is best ?

What about baits ?? Or could i just get a set of mackeral feathers or the like with a small weight on the end and drag them across the surface ?

Where in Suffolk is good for trout ?

Just any advice in general to be honest

Mackrel feathers Depends on the venue Butch and what the RULES allow. Some venues allow bait in certain areas and asssume you are talking still water as opposed to river fishing. The humble worm or maggot is far more likely to catch than a set of mackeral feathers unlees you are lucky......and there are some extremely lucky fisherman on this forum

Well I've heard of pulling mackerel feathers across the surface for Bass so thought it may work.

Obviously not

I'm talking about anything really Rivers or still water, not bothered.

Well for basic bait fishing for trout i would use a running ledger with a size 8-6 hook and a half ounce ball weight.

 

For bait get yourself out and either dig some worms or go to a local fishing shop and try and get some maggots or berkley powerbait.

 

Personally i would go for the berkley powerbait it is great never fails

 

For rod size i would go for a 7-10ft spinning rod. Reels i would use a fixed spool spinning reel loaded with 8-12 lb line

 

Hope this helps just a quick guide to what i would use and as for where to fish cant help you with that one

I'm sure I've got a rod that size somewhere, and I've already got a fixed spool loaded up with 12lb line

Prefer to use natural baits, worms ? What sorta worms ?

Get yourself a bubble float,starlight,spinning rod,fixed spool,8lb bs line,and maggots soaked in vanilla,though I did witness a massive amount of fish feeding on nothing more than green-giant sweetcorn last night

You can pick up a bubble-float and starlight for a couple of quid Butch,pop into your local tackle shop,they will fix you up,I threw a tin of sweetcorn into a lake last night just to see the reaction,within a few minutes the water was boiling in front of us I wouldnt use it as bait though,but I could imagine it would be very,very effective if you want to give it a try

Make sure you get the owners permission to night fish with bait first Butch,your lucky,theres loads of waters near you,check them out on google-earth beforehand if your able,keep us informed how it goes

It was a dun magnet nymph mate Actually it was litter left by inconsiderate anglers mate,I always do a quick tidy-up before I leave a place,it means I always have permission the next time I go
