Squirrel_Basher 17,102
Please excuse my ignorance but is there still a market for the pelts ,does anyone still bother,or has that market gone along with the rest?. Quote Link to post
FPO 0
Think it is about 5p a pelt! lot of fuss and bother for not a lot! anyone who ties flys usually has one in thier box but last ages. I find the best use is in the runner bean row nice and deep down!!! Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Drops; There was a guy asking on the pest control forums a while ago. He wanted them for Fly Tiers. As FPO indicates, there's no riches to be made from the buggers though. Ye'd really need to be doing it for some sort of craic. But I can try and dig out his addy, if ye reckon it worth while? trappa 518
Ive asked on various forums for a few years now and no-one is interested. I catch four figures every season but end up burying them where i caught them. There was a topic posted, probably on here, of a fly tying company after them, BUT you had to join the "olde worlde mole trappers society" or something and that cost about £70 or so. Dont think its worth the hassle to be honest. Quote Link to post

mole trapper 1,703
Ditchy, Trappa is not quite correct, the traditional mole trappers register IS £75 to join, but it has nothing to do with selling pelts, i have not joined, but they occasionaly still e mail me with jobs that come in through their web site, these are generally anywhere in devon or cornwall. Admitadly for the most part the leads have been a bit of a waste of time, the people are just looking for someone local to give them advice, one of the jobs was a goer, but she was already one of mine but had lost my card. The chap who owns it is a nice fella who is ok on a money making idea, but he is beating the drum for a good cause, ie, keeping the art in the public eye, and in turn keeping it alive. Regards and no offence ment Trappa, MT. Quote Link to post

Regards and no offence ment Trappa, MT. i had a fella phone me once wanting dried mole skins , he was offering 10 p each skin and he cut them in half and bagged them and they sell in the fishing shops for £1.30 for a half skin , so he was selling them at about 60 p per half skin , robbing b*****d, i didn,t sell him any Quote Link to post

Ossie 11
honestly, there's bugger-all money in pelts these days. a fair few blokes i know in their 50's/60's used to make a tidy sum from them back in the day, but they're hardly worth bothering with now. learn how to cure them, and have someone run you up a nice moleskin waistcoat Quote Link to post

I thought it was a bit of a con as i get enough work anyway so dont need to join the society. Quote Link to post
