STAN22 3
Hi, i have just taken on a plummer bitch which is an excellent earth dog, from a mate of mine who doesnt have any work for her now. She is as skinny as a rake at the minute i mean she looks ill for it. Its not my mates fault she just couldnt put any weight on. I would just like to know how some of you would go about putting weight on her safely. I am feeding her a balanced diet biscuit with various different things put in it everyday such as tuna, pilchards and chicken etc. Any comments will be greatly appreiciated. Waz 4,293
Lamb and pasta with brown bread has worked for me (not me peronally although i like all 3!). Also another possibility is she is shivering off the energy if shes not in a warm box in the kennel. Good on your mate for finding her work with yourself has he got any more Quote Link to post
STAN22 3
She is in the house at the minute mate because i thought that might be the problem (where he lives its not been above 4 degrees for the last month). Ive had her because he's got nothing but rabbits now and she's only interested in the orange fellows. Thanks alot will knock some of that up for her later. Quote Link to post

kozzi 0
uncooked oils are good for putting on weight; smother some brown bread with loads of olive oil and give that to her. breast of lamb is great or maybe some suet. Tripe is also good for putting weight on. Good luck Quote Link to post
thurso jack 3
chicken, chicken and more chicken (raw) and any fatty red meat off cuts again raw. a fussy eater, who only gains bulk through the above feeding methods. Quote Link to post
Guest ragumup
A vet told me he feeds his dogs on pure lard and nowt els, id give her cheap sausagers 40 p a pack and if they are cheap they will be height fat i have a bitch that's hard to put weight on i find she not keen on the complete dog food even when adlib but a dog will all ways eat raw sausages also handy for worming tablets ,antibiotics ,and recall on young dogs if you have a few in your pocket Quote Link to post

bill88 6
Worm the dog before doing anything, use a decent wormer like Drontal or Milbemax. Then get the dog some Breast Of Lamb,my old man swore by it and it will get the weight back on the dog. Quote Link to post
