I'm wanting some advice on my 8 month old lurcher bitch. I've dropped 2 rabbits for her she will chase but wont pick up

Probably because she's too young and niave at 8 months wait till she's a year old and walk up on some squatters on the lamp dropped rabbits no good

Cheers couple out of the litter are killing rabbits maybe some take longer is my only thought

She will suss it out eventually. If you can take her out with an experienced dog it will help a lot. Also, let her eat a rabbit. Worm her afterwards cos they are riddled with crawlers.

Not to young at 8 months if he waits till one year it could then take another few months for penny to drop where as if he keeps at it now be well switched on by 12 months, I think it does them good to get that killing into there head when there young, you can leave them to long sometimes

Each to there own personally I wouldn't start a dog young you just end up with frustrated yappers most of the time, why rush? People just get too impatient to start a dog when really that dog has to work for you for atleast 8/9 seasons I don't understand why you wouldn't wait until it's physically and mentally ready for work let's face it another 4 months isn't long to wait......I know people will say what difference does 4 months make but think of it this way, if a dog ages 7 years for every one of our years imagine the difference 4 months make mentally

Dropped rabbits is pointless in my opinion.. Lurchers are born with prey drive. You train them to fetch and recall etc, not to chase a rabbit

Dropped rabbits is really for ametures there's nothing good In chasing a confused disorientated rabbit that's just come out of a sack

Always start my pups off with some ferreting..let them have a mouthful or 2 of a rabbit in a purse net first.....
