Bingo, it not so much how people want to look, it’s how they think they “should” look to others….im not saying that’s true for everyone but it’s true for a lot I bet.

I think your tale of your injury is worth people taking notice of, well older lads at least…..it’s not the fact of if you will get an injury but the fact that once you reach a certain age you may not ever come back from it.

Its just a fact of once you hit 50 you don’t heal up as quick if you heal up fully at all, little knocks and sprains and injury’s that took a week to be fine in your 20s or 30s will take a month or maybe never mend at all….thats just how it works, every human is built to peek and then fade.

You get to a point where lifting heavy just isnt productive anymore.....i just read a post Tomo put up,he sounds an old hand at this so not for me to criticize but lifting at or even close to your 1 rep max into our late 50's i think is more about ego than any actual strength benefit......certain lifts i could probably lift close to the best i ever could but i never do.

The injury ive had is a tendon detachment, its a perfect example of why we shouldnt lift heavy later on in life....its an old arm wrestling injury but could just as easily have been done in the gym, every time it detaches the anchor point at the end of the tendon frays and so during surgery they have to trim it up before re - attaching......after 3 surgeries the tendon is getting shorter and shorter to the point the last surgery i had they had to bridge the gap artificially, hence ive now been looking into stem cell therapy.

Its the type of thing that a " normal " person wouldnt even bother about, its not particularly painful,no real limited range of motion etc....but in my mind im still an athlete and have to be at 100%......the mind is a funny thing sometimes.

i was at it from young  uncles with floor excercises the bull worker lol remember them whst good is been bulked up a load a muscle ? in your pic anyone can see youve been dabbling mate thats giving you more go to get at the weights may aswell a hit a 20 stone on a pipe

whats the difference between you getting by taking a few orals  and tiring ya self out and someone  sniffing a subby and switching off ?

I don't get the defensive attitude, my cousin was the same, he went from 9 stone soaking wet to over 13 stone, he didn't put on a ton of fat with it and although still relatively small, it stood out a mile, he looked in good nick. We used to rip him about roids, denied it for ages and then finally broke but said "I've only been on the winstrol!" Lol

I’m on about just doing what you want to do once you reach a certain point in your life, I don’t eat “shite” as you put it…..I enjoy a decent meal of well cooked proper grub.

You won’t find me in the chip shop 4 times a week, but you also won’t find me not having a cod and chips by the sea if a fancy one.

I gave up drinking when I was 24 because drinking and trying to build a life never went together for me personally, I’m no zealot about it, I just didn’t want the foggy head or to be out of control, I needed to get up very early every morning and I needed to be able to get places at a moments notice…..so for me it was a practical decision and one I’ve been quiet happy to stick with.

But even that’s said, if the occasion or the company feels right I will enjoy a beer because I feel like it……but I may go 3 or 4 years and never taste a drop of alcohol and that’s been consistent since 24.

I can happily go in a pub and not drink, my pals used to say “How can you not have a drink in the pub” and I used to say “Easy, I don’t order one”…..because, as Gnasher alludes to, most of this stuff comes down to peer pressure.

Ive been 28 and in absolute peak condition and now I’m retired and it’s some other young man’s time to be all that…..I’m enjoying what I want to enjoy while I’m still here.
So, if you ever cook me a steak make sure its in plenty of butter with loads of garlick and bloody as hell, tip the brown butter from the pan over the top when you serve it and I’ll be 54 enjoying that while I watch 40 something you lift weights and eat tablets from Holland and Barret ! lol

I was that person for years mate......ive always liked pubs, the traditions and general camaraderie of a local community pub atmosphere......but i never drank....people who knew me were fine with it but would still often get funny looks while sipping at my Orange squash

Yeah, that's why I'd say with 80% certainty Bangers juiced and didn't particularly have a good diet, his pic is a spit of them Cleggy brothers who smash a course in nick but don't train or eat properly, that bloated look with overdeveloped traps. Lol

Many might not train but lads around me where I live most have kept it up. Ive seen many that dont go chasing drugs want to change go to gym. Then when out there back doing the same old. Drugs or in boozer coked up again. Sad to see decent lads too bit of character. But hanging around with same idiots on the road wont be helping. A gave up smoking weed as a teen that's another f***ing waste of money.

Prison lifters are funny people.....i would class it as almost fear induced.....they want to get big as a defensive mechanism as much as anything.....back out on the street they fall back into their comfortable realism.

The former worlds strongest man Gary Taylor was a screw he made me gym orderly in Wandsworth in the mid 90's he gave me a bit of advice that stuck with me through the years....." dont waste your time on people who dont want to train for the right reasons "....having owned a few gyms since then it was great advice looking back.

This is the typical prison body, they go in about 9 stone and come out all bloated at 13 stone with the same spuggy legs, this is Bangers through and through, you've got to laugh.

That's why for me I can't see the point in it. Unless you are competing in bodybuilding what's the point in going through stages of bloating up and losing it all? Lol
