I'm after any advice please lads...

We're planning a trip to America for a bit of tour around..

Plan is... 10 days over Xmas with kids (who are adults lol) brother, sister in law etc... renting a place on the Florida Keys, hiring a self drive boat and mainly fishing for most of it... @green lurchers i know you've spent a fair bit of time out there fishing, Im looking at Marathon to stay, villa with a boat dock, general sea fishing, spinning, live baits etc...

We take everyone back to airport then me and the wife do 4 or 5 weeks touring the southern states, planning nashville for New Yeaes eve.. across to memphis then down the Mississippi to New Orleans, stopping where we fancy etc..

We're leaving flights home open, will head towards Texas, want to do a few days on a working ranch, there is no final destination as such, we can book a flight on fairly short notice from nearest airport...

Gonna hire a truck, stop in motels or maybe short stays in Air bnbs... its a very loose plan with only the first 10 days booked and planned (because of the family coming)...

The original plan was a 5 week tour around South America, but that's been put on the back burner at the minute..

Now the kids aren't kids we're planning a few more of these types of trips...

Any advice on the southern states, dos and do nots... must sees etc much appreciated.

I loved Texas. Managed to tick two things off my bucket list; visit the JFK assassination sites and see the Alamo.
Started in Dallas, stayed in the Presidential Suite for one night at the Dallas Hylton then rented a rag top Mustang and drove to SanAntonio and stayed with friends. Also went out to Fredericksburg and stayed in a log cabin belonging to President Johnson , for a night.

In San Antonio , the river side area is a good visit, take a boat down the river and there’s loads going on on the river banks.

Met some hunters in a bar and they took me for a run with some staghounds, short and sweet, they got straightlined by a whitetail.
Had dinner atop the Tower of the Americas.

And there’s Scheplers, the biggest western outfitters in the world.

Loads to see and do.

My missus is more for the likes of Boston and New York, but still enjoyed Texas.

Im sure you’ll enjoy it.
Cheers.

Thanks Charts,

That's the sort of info I need..

We've been to New York, enjoyed a couple of short breaks, but not what we're looking for this time, want more traditional type things, rodeo would be one, love our music hence Nashville, Memphis etc.. I'll have rods with me the whole trip so will grab any chance to cast a line..

I spent 10 days in North Carolina working (hydrogen business), met loads of lads from different states and had an invite to fish/hunt in South Catolina which I've never taken up... I've got to consider the wife on this one as well, it's her 50th trip so I may have to have 1 day away from my holiday lol

I feel your pain mate ! LOL !

Every trip I make involves fishing, hunting, dogs, etc, but the wife doesn’t mind.

I travelled the world with her when she was a darts player, so I guess we are even ! LOL !

She does all the travelling now, and I’m content to stay at home, although I’m looking forward to my trip to Ireland in December.

Cheers.

Haha.. its been the same since we met, if we're in the UK I drag dogs, rods, lamp etc around...always take a rod abroad, I'll get up first light and fish while she sleeps... then last light while she takes hours to get ready to go out lol..

I've seen you say before about your wife playing darts, didn't realise it was on the international stage... brilliant stuff mate
