Would our Derby be with Middlesbrough? To take it to ad absurdum, what if our nearest team was Leeds? Would they be our Derby ? Teams in the same city is a Derby…anything else is a rivalry, just in my opinion though, others may disagree. Cheers.

I don't make the rules, but I've posted two sources citing the same, and all other sources say the same, a Derby is a game of two clubs who are geographically close to each other, you can class it as you wish mate.

It is and has always been known as a West Yorkshire derby. For as long as ive been following football Leeds rivals were always Man Utd,thats doesnt make it a derby game ! If you think that West Ham and Brentford..... Millwall and Arsenal .....Wolves and Walsall etc etc are derby games then you clearly havent been around active football fans through the generations. Palace and Brighton now book themselves as rivals......but its not a derby......you cant just make it up as you go,or maybe you can but thats why people dont buy into these made up " derbies "

Who said Man UTD and Leeds UTD was a Derby? They hate each other and it's a big rivalry but it's never been classed as a Derby.

If Gateshead miraculously worked their way up to the Premier League you can bet your last dollar you'd be then classing it as a Derby with Newcastle. Leyton Orient are the closest club to West Ham geographically......we played them years ago....nobody.....and i mean nobody from either club ever have or ever will see it is any sort of rivalry/derby. As many other West Ham fans will i would love to see Orient win their play off game tomorrow.....hardly rivalry/derby mentality.

Again, if Orient worked their way up to the Premier League you'd certainly start classing it as a Derby game? Edited May 24 by Pardus

So.....the West Ham/Millwall rivalry, one of the oldest rivalries in English football,a rivalry of over 120 years is suddenly going to be brushed under the carpet and forgotten about if Orient win their play off game tomorrow and then get up into the Premier League next year This conversation has become too silly to bother with. 1

It is mate yes....or Dagenham & Redbridge........to have hostility to either club would be to pretend they are a threat....and they are not, never have been. Hackney Marshes is the common ground between West Ham and Orient many players have come off those pitches to the O's,the better ones would go to West Ham its just the way its been.
