WILF 48,974
I was in Enniskillen on Saturday and they had the Erne festival on….you'd have been in your element in your previous incarnation of match fisherman mate. It was warm and the river was busy, but a cool ripple on the surface and it looked like it was hard going for the competitors….i didn’t see much landed other than a decent looking hybrid. How things have gone continental since I was a kid, all these lads had multiple poles rigged with the occasional feeder rod……didn’t see one waggler or stick float. I don’t think I will ever get my head round river fishing with a pole ! lol

I don’t think I will ever get my head round river fishing with a pole ! lol One of the festivals I always wanted to fish mate, along with the big festival on Muckno.. I fished Muckno a few times and it was a completely different water to anything I'd fished before...I'd of definitely bombed out in any match on it, but would rather scratch 10lb of fish in a real match then 100lb of fish on a commercial! Regards stick float and waggler fishing on rivers its becoming a dying art, Dave Harrel has started a newish river match program (probably 10 years old now), if I was still into the match scene I'd have a go in that tbh..

The accessibility of modern carp waters and the ease of buying gear on line has reduced the skill imo.. learning on a canal, or river made you have watercraft... even at sea I'm constantly looking for a boil in the water, gulls working, flattening off of areas of water (showing a change of depth, or bottom), rougher areas where the tide runs harder etc.. the same story on a river, reading the water was key.. getting pissed in a bivvy for 3 days and leaving the rods out ain't fishing imo.. There are some great carp anglers though, a couple who have taught me loads over the years, a whole different way of thinking.. carping is not my thing but I seriously respect the lads who do it properly 3

Everyday low prices and free... Kev this is an interesting book tells you loads of Wrecks how they are siting on the sea floor and gives the Lat and Long numbers. The Lat and Long numbers are in minutes and seconds so if you have a Sat Nat will need covert to 100th's. Thats not to hard to do though. Also gives inshore marks and reefs. Some of the rights ups in the book are real good reads as well as to how the ships ended up on the bottom. Cheers Arry Edited May 6 by Arry 1
