My dads cousin just had it for rats. But he got it past down from another family member abit older than him. Now my old man's got it. Lol. He's just come around for it. To have an hour in his garden target shooting. Mid life crisis. 1 Quote Link to post
eastcoast 4,468
Started reading the topic from 1st post and convinced it was a Mercury, but as not marked Mercury, started to think it could be a rare BSA prototype, but reading later posts it is marked Well worth getting back into optimum working order. Powerful and more importantly accurate enough for rabbits and pigeons. A genuine part of great British gun making history. I preferred the fixed barrel Airsporter but the Mercury was a nice rifle. Even the Nikko Stirling scope is worth keeping as period accurate but the old 2 piece mounts used to suffer from "scope creep". 2 Quote Link to post
mitre 220
Yes that's right they seem a older type of scope as long the cross hairs are in tact and the lens are clear and they don't flop out Quote Link to post

What do you call them cross-hairs never seen any like that before. The scope has what is called a post & crosshair reticle - very popular in the 1960s - 1970s. The yellow sticker on front bell looks to be a Japanese optics mfgr. Inspection passed sticker. Scope quite possibly made by LOW ( Light Optics Works), SUWA, or Hakko. Nice bit of kit, have fun gussying it up Edited June 7 by chouchin66 Quote Link to post
