chartpolski 27,401
To use a horse anology in reference to dogs; If I wanted a Derby winner; I’d get a non-ped whippet. If I wanted a Grand National winner; I’d get a deerhound cross If I wanted something to pull a milk cart ? I’d borrow my mates white dog, in his own words , it pulls all day ! Cheers. 4 Quote Link to post

That pulling on the lead screaming no good if your lamping like Mc does. I never take a day time coursing dog lamping. But each to there own. Many lads when dogs miss on hedge or cover on a night turn lamps off for dog to come back an not hunt up scaring all other quarry off. So a young dog will learn that hedge rows an cover are a stop point. Some may not but many dogs will. I was told keep a coursing dog a coursing dog. Day time. Don't be letting them run around like c**ts off the leads when walking out an not on the land. Our youngen let this f****r off when out with my nephew on local field. Come back f****d. Ran from top football field to bottom one. Turned at bottom of the hill too quick an f****d his front end up. It's never been same since. Can't blame our youngen. Shit happens. Same with them at a young age. If they start f***ing about when cleaning the hoofs. Ie trying to kick out. They get some broom. Test you to f**k lol or go to nip you when your backs turned cleaning the hoof. The mare would put them in their place so you've to knock it out of them. The wife told me that. I used to be shit scared of them. An the cob I had knew at first tested me to f**k. 1 Quote Link to post

jukel123 9,242
All the breeds discussed have a different running style or gait. It's amazing to me how, when all these breeds are mixed, that you get effective running dogs at all. Even more weird is how you get an effective lurcher out of pointer crosses. Pointers have a unique way of moving, part gallop part questing movement. But the cross is effective. I used to have a collie saturated lurcher that when it saw a hare would run really wide of it and try and herd it. You could swear it had been taught to "come by". It only ever caught one hare .....by accident. It was f****n hopeless. I only fed it because it became a family pet and a complete joker. It answered to Dopey, Dickhead and Arsehole.
