J Darcy 5,871
I was chatting to a lad the other day about the merits of auto focus. That is all he uses and he does have some stunning shots i have to say. I never use auto for wildlife /hunting pics as i much prefer to do my shots manually with hand/eye co-ordination.... My question is, which focussing method do you guys prefer???? and.....do you think its much easier these days to take top-class pics with these digital cameras? borderboy 80
I definatley think auto focus makes taken good pictures easier... especially wildlife pics, when I find id miss out on the shot, because i wouldn't be able to react quickly enough and get it in decent focus... although when i've got the chance to i sometimes try to manual focus, i think that i focus the image differently to how the lens does... maybe when i have better understanding and ability, i will switch to manual focus..? doxhope 2
I use auto focus 99% of the time, I dont have a tripod, well, I have one but havent used it yet Ive just bought a converter, and it renders the auto focus useless, so I will have to get used to doing some manual stuff.. J Darcy 5,871
Get a monpod... for taking true action shots they are invaluable.....,/........ i like to shoot manual.....i feel i have made the shot rather than the camera....
ade33uk 86
75% of my photos are taken with everything automatic but i ask myself have i really taken that photo . its just point and shoot and ive done nothing really . if i got time to take a second or more shots i will play with the manual settings and have a go with manual focusing , got to be honest i dont get many good photos when i do but the ones i do get right are the ones im most proud of . IanB 0
I'll go with doxhope 95% of the time auto focus, manuals alright if you have something fixed with no movement......
tiny tim 22
auto for me but its fine on open ground with the focus spot set at centre and you can keep the subject in the middle of the view finder but in woodland or where the you keep losing sight of the quarry behind small bushes etc the camera doesnt know what to focus on and hunts for focus.....
