This was how Bear was every single day for a month after breaking his neck then another pic of him as he is now,I never went to bed for 30 day's,I turned him over every 2 hours to prevent him getting

Here's Boots on one of the many occasions I've worked him until almost his last breath, the dog has no quit in him,Bear & Rose his pups are exactly the same, all these dog's would lay their life on

Hope everyone has had a decent season running their dogs 👍🏻 ..another one comes to an end & that's about it for my old mongrel Boots too,he's let me know the past 4 or 5 trip's out he's had enough

These young dogs are a 1/4 Saluki Dodge with 5/8 Grey..they only have 1/8 Bull in them,I guess they aren't too far off being 3/4 Grey 1/4 Saluki & being honest Dodge, they may lack a bit of staying power but they are out of our own dog's & we know what they are capable of doing & what they can't do,I've bought dogs in over the year's out of 'so called world beater's/champions' & all bar one or possibly two have been mediocre at the best,I just don't trust anyone in this game or very very few,99.9% are full of shit & or are happy with mediocre/poor mutts, this internet opened my eyes many years ago Dodge it really did. I'll admit I'm just a part-time hunter these day's but I'll always be honest regarding my dog's,what they do & what they won't do & I'll always be honest about myself. I'm lucky to get out hunting twice weekly these day's but I have 4 lads that all work dog's so my dogs are out several times weekly so they get to see more action than I that's for sure. I've found out over many year's running dog's that a 5/8 or 3/4 bred of pretty much any cross is handy enough where I run so that's what I now run,on a personal note I've only ever seen one genuine half cross that being a Bull x Greyhound that was really good & that was more so on teeth but it could muster a good bag of bunnies too if needed be, second, third generation half crosses are a different thing but personally apart from that one dog called Shane I've never ever seen even a half decent genuine half cross & that's why I'd never own one nor ever have quite simply they just don't do it where I work my dog's,a 3/4 bred well I've seen dozens of excellent worker's so I'd always go that route over a genuine half cross if I needed too. These thing's I currently have & the pups are all 5/8 Grey as is Boots too..if the pups do half as well as them then happy day's..these pups will no doubt outlive me, hopefully I can see them do a bit before father time calls me home,I'm almost 60 now bud so the year's have really crept up on me,still according to this Garmin Fenix watch I wear it reckons my VO2 max info isn't too bad & my fitness age is that of a 46 year old..I'm not sure if that makes me feel any better though as my back, knees, hips, ankles & wrists are all fecked but I'll keep plodding on for as long as I can matey..

Andy...how heavy was boots?

Boots when last weighed at the vet's was 35.55kg Tomo..at this current moment he's probably 40kg plus,he's just enjoying retirement now, eating & sleeping for the most, still gets 3 walks daily but not excessive exercise like he used to get. Old dog will be 13 come October 1st,he looks very well to be fair to him, absolutely gleaming he is.

Them films can be manipulated 😁...If I was going to introduce new blood in to any line breed family of dogs, earth or runners ,I would be out watching as many in the flesh doing their thing over at least a full season...see if they are the real deal....just because they got big names behind them, don't mean they are gonna be tested to the Max....most mens egos won't allow them,to give a dog to certain folks.... because they will and can break them with ease....But not to worry, they can then sell them to the yanks and Arabs for a few bags🤣👍

Don't underestimate yourself Dodge,I know that you've had some serious animals in your kennels & done a hundred times more than I daytime 👀 .. likewise regarding our trips that are too many year's ago for my liking, the years pass me by so quickly these day's..I always remember when Topper caught 14 or was it 16 I can't quite remember now,Chester was lame & Topper got some serious running without so much as a five minute break,we gave him some real hammer & to be fair to him he kept on giving his everything,he was a superb dog, retrieved everything as good as a gundog..I really rated him & always will, you travelled with him to test him & see what he could do & he done you proud, there wasn't many dog's that could run the amount he did within the timeframe, great dog & even though he'd never encountered so many runs in one session you had him fit enough to do it..they were great times & the laughs we had along the way well they too were highlights of our forays..great memories Dodge..I just wish I was a bit younger mate,we would still be at it I'm sure of it 😁

Yeh that's right Chester went lame didn't he n pressure was as there was still hares need weighing in and yeh that was how you lads did it wasn't it hardly any breaks between runs.

Yeh I should've got a pup from him he had some good old school blood in him kippers cruiser and dean..

Yeh I worked dogs hard but what a good man I think there's a bit more to it than that sometimes I look at dogs and think they look well and other times not so well were as some people are good stock men there animals look good all the time.

I also have nothing to show for the good dogs I had, IV had a few right good dogs and at 45 now it would be nice if I had bred and kept aine going until now similar to yourself and others that would be rewarding and looking back at all those days and nights and miles blood sweat n tears to get to whats here running now so to speak..

My pup Tino yesterday..he's unfortunately carrying an injury at the moment which is preventing us cracking on with his education, especially jumping & anything more than just walking really..pups doing what pups do 'playing and fighting' his sister Maggie ran directly in front of him when he was coursing about & he hit her side on & had his front end taken away & he skidded about 10-15 foot on what looked like his chin,it took him around 30 seconds to gather himself up off the ground,he walks 100% sound but I can see at a jog he's not stretching out on his front end,it's nothing untoward but it's obviously sore & bruised in his chest area,so steady away for a fortnight & in the portamag a couple of times a day for him. Initially I thought nothing of it but my lad had him out over the fields just continuing the pups livestock training & he rang me to say Tino wouldn't & couldn't jump even the smallest of fences & gates which rang alarm bells straight away as he'd been jumping gates etc at 4 1/2 month's old. I was just at the boneman's last week too so could have had him looked over just to be sure, anyways I'll have him looked over before the season starts along with the others just so they are all good to go..there's never a stress free day when you have a team of dogs that's for sure..
