I'll admit I'm just a part-time hunter these day's but I'll always be honest regarding my dog's,what they do & what they won't do & I'll always be honest about myself. I'm lucky to get out hunting twice weekly these day's but I have 4 lads that all work dog's so my dogs are out several times weekly so they get to see more action than I that's for sure. I've found out over many year's running dog's that a 5/8 or 3/4 bred of pretty much any cross is handy enough where I run so that's what I now run,on a personal note I've only ever seen one genuine half cross that being a Bull x Greyhound that was really good & that was more so on teeth but it could muster a good bag of bunnies too if needed be, second, third generation half crosses are a different thing but personally apart from that one dog called Shane I've never ever seen even a half decent genuine half cross & that's why I'd never own one nor ever have quite simply they just don't do it where I work my dog's,a 3/4 bred well I've seen dozens of excellent worker's so I'd always go that route over a genuine half cross if I needed too. These thing's I currently have & the pups are all 5/8 Grey as is Boots too..if the pups do half as well as them then happy day's..these pups will no doubt outlive me, hopefully I can see them do a bit before father time calls me home,I'm almost 60 now bud so the year's have really crept up on me,still according to this Garmin Fenix watch I wear it reckons my VO2 max info isn't too bad & my fitness age is that of a 46 year old..I'm not sure if that makes me feel any better though as my back, knees, hips, ankles & wrists are all fecked but I'll keep plodding on for as long as I can matey.. got to agree theres a lot of shite im looking stud for next year most likely see how many let me see the dog this winter lol seen one or 2 i like look of on film 1 Quote Link to post

Boots when last weighed at the vet's was 35.55kg Tomo..at this current moment he's probably 40kg plus,he's just enjoying retirement now, eating & sleeping for the most, still gets 3 walks daily but not excessive exercise like he used to get. Old dog will be 13 come October 1st,he looks very well to be fair to him, absolutely gleaming he is. 7 Quote Link to post

Yeh I should've got a pup from him he had some good old school blood in him kippers cruiser and dean.. Yeh I worked dogs hard but what a good man I think there's a bit more to it than that sometimes I look at dogs and think they look well and other times not so well were as some people are good stock men there animals look good all the time. I also have nothing to show for the good dogs I had, IV had a few right good dogs and at 45 now it would be nice if I had bred and kept aine going until now similar to yourself and others that would be rewarding and looking back at all those days and nights and miles blood sweat n tears to get to whats here running now so to speak.. 1 Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,623
My pup Tino yesterday..he's unfortunately carrying an injury at the moment which is preventing us cracking on with his education, especially jumping & anything more than just walking really..pups doing what pups do 'playing and fighting' his sister Maggie ran directly in front of him when he was coursing about & he hit her side on & had his front end taken away & he skidded about 10-15 foot on what looked like his chin,it took him around 30 seconds to gather himself up off the ground,he walks 100% sound but I can see at a jog he's not stretching out on his front end,it's nothing untoward but it's obviously sore & bruised in his chest area,so steady away for a fortnight & in the portamag a couple of times a day for him. Initially I thought nothing of it but my lad had him out over the fields just continuing the pups livestock training & he rang me to say Tino wouldn't & couldn't jump even the smallest of fences & gates which rang alarm bells straight away as he'd been jumping gates etc at 4 1/2 month's old. I was just at the boneman's last week too so could have had him looked over just to be sure, anyways I'll have him looked over before the season starts along with the others just so they are all good to go..there's never a stress free day when you have a team of dogs that's for sure.. 2 Quote Link to post
