Waxwings,my first sighting

Recommended Posts

Beautiful pics of a stunning bird.Saw LOTS as a kid,and seen cedar waxwing here in Canada.Every year the Sunderland Echo newspaper would announce the arrival of flocks of waxwing at the old railway lines between south Hylton and penshaw, penshaw monument, and Washington wildfowl and as I lived virtually on the lines and walked my dogs along them daily I would see them annually on their migration from Russia.

Tried for a couple of years to get a decent picture of one, never did, I was thinking the other day, around 10 years ago one September afternoon i was walking around the fields with a gun and one of the dogs, Walked down one hedgerow that was absolutely stuffed with Swallows, I mean thousands upon thousands, they took no notice of me or the dog, I assume they were congregating prior to migration.
