I would imaging wolf would be worth a chat I know he’s a small holder and has small groups of livestock not sure if he’s kept pigs but may be worth a shout if no one else comes forward

I’ve done it a few times. If you can source a good food supply ie old veg and scraps etc then you might make it pay. Feeding pellets obviously ups the cost.

I can't  remember the slaughter and butchering costs as l just looked after the daily care of the  pigs  while the farmer friend who l shared them with  dealt with the  finance side .  I had  great sources of sackfuls of free fruit and  fruit and veg for several years. That dried up and we had to use more commercial food which affected the cost   and  taste of   meat from our last lot of pigs. It pretty much  negated the aim of quality home produced food.

And l think any small scale livestock keeping is more about the ethics and satisfaction  of getting decent food from decently raised animals than having some unrealistic idea of profit.

You have to concentrate on the fun side.  Coz if you don't  the first time you fall in a puddle of  poo  while  trying to persuade an escaped piggy that the electric fence it's on the wrong side of is turned off while trying to persuade the pigs still in the enclosure that it's  still on  can cause dark thoughts of the economics of the enterprise?
