Great fun Quote Link to post
Borr 4,504
A lot of good tench waters have been taken over by the carp syndicates that I remember at least Quote Link to post

I could not bring myself to ledger for tench. It's just not right. Quote Link to post

Nicepix 5,650
Yes, so have I. But this new method of fishing a 60g lead and 2" hook link for tench and crucians isn't for me. To quote H.T. Sherringham; "A float tip is pleasing in its appearance and is even more pleasing in its disappearance." 1 Quote Link to post

We used to catch 4/5 tench from 3/5 lb at Wellington cp, £3 for a day ticket , as we left the Thames valley they'd just stocked the 40 acre lake with 2000 2lb carp I think, last I heard it was full of 30/40s and £1500 to join syndicate. Sad really when you think how many youngsters could've fished the place. The burghfield gravel pits were £1.50 I think and we could fish all night if we wanted and we had enough autan mosquito repellant, old lady used to collect. Again a carp water possibly a syndicate. Daniel cain 42,903
we have a few old estate lakes we rent that have no carp other than crucian in them, just silvers and tench.I used to fish quite a bit for tench as a youngster at Caerphilly castle, then got into carp fishing ...had a few double figure tench by accident over the years while carp fishing ,my best was 2 oz shy of 12 lb..all from the same swim on the same lake..that place is carp only these days, syndicate netted everything else and sold them off 1 Quote Link to post
paulus 26
sadly managing a carp fishery now means all other fish are a nuisance and cost money by eating food intended for carp, i have been told of thousands of pounds of silvers put on the muck heap after annual netting, I am not knocking carp fishing in its entirety but rather the commercialising of it over recent years. When i first started fishing catching big carp was seen as an impossibility, nowadays if you have the cash in your pocket its as easy as shelling peas, Quote Link to post
