Goodbye to “Sporting rifle” magazine

Recommended Posts

The only magazine I get these days is Sporting rifle . I’ve had a subscription for a few years . ( I was stopped at the midland by a beautiful saleswoman at the midland and I was putty in her hands ) .
I’ve just heard that it is to be incorporated into the weekly shooting times . I looked forward to it dropping on the doormat every month. I don’t think I will be getting shooting times though. I stopped getting that when John Humphreys passed away . It was never the same again . It seemed to be very much the same articles each year in rotation. I also like the sporting rifle reviews and technical stuff which we may not get in ST .

Years ago when i worked for a living myself and a couple of other lads were waiting for an inbound aircraft to land. Amongst other things i used to tow aircraft with a special tractor used for the job

Shooting times used to be a really good read, my mate would buy that and I would get rifle shooter or sporting rifle and we would swap when we were done with them, as more things came online like shoo

Going way way back when I was a kid I  used to pester mother to get the shooting Times  for me every Thursday when she went to the local market.  I waited like a dog for it to arrive. Bitterly disappointed if she couldn't get the latest copy.  Then suddenly  change and it was just  adverts and fairy stories written by people who weren't shooting men.  They were just chancers writing nonsense stories as a job like they wrote all sorts.  A bit like when Jack Hargrieves changed from actually going pigeon shooting to talking about making wicker baskets and other crap.  Mother was stood down from getting the shooting times and also the prices suddenly skyrocketed from a few Bob to £3.50 and more.

Also stopped get Sporting Rifle as again same topics over and over even though I know its difficult to spice it up as we are limited with subject matter. I always wondered what you could write about shooting clays every month.

If you have shot one clay then you have shot them all, boring ba****ds! ?

?????? say what you mean Stav. Puff gun plank ??

I’ve nothing against puff guns,( I’ve had quite a few, all springers, I’m not made of money) apart from the fact I can buy half a dozen rimfires for the price of one PCP, on the other hand people who wang on about them as if they are amazing do my head in, my .243 will make it deader and in a more spectacular fashion than anything with a bit of wind behind it ?

Never had much to do with air rifles but did have a BSA Airsporter when I was about 16. Haven't really had a need for one but on occasion could have done with one but not worth buying one when wont be used. I shoot rabbits with .22lr . If I had loads of rats to shoot may be different story.
