si brown 8,486
well with all the things going on at the moment im taking a back seat with work and only seeing the kids.. if there is a bat bug im not gonna be responsible for spreading it as a lot of my customers are old! so last night the weather was awful and I was board stiff sat at home so I phoned the old sheep farmer up and said I was going to come up and have a walk round, his reply was ok but its sh!t weather up here.. id looked at the forecast and the rain was due to stop and duly did about five mins after I arrived.. so aft a quick brew and smoke I set the rifle up and grabbed me kit and set off mooching.. this place was water logged and I mean it was like trudging through a swamp in places, although the rain gad stopped the wind had not eased off, 40mph with gusts more... this is why I use a 6.5 might seem excessive but if its not moorland then im in a huge vale thats equally as windy! when driving up to the farm house I stoped half way along the track and had a butchers with the thermal..sure enough there was one stood on a wall observing me so thats the direction I went to get set up, jumped the gate and sank about 6" waked about 40 yard away from the buildings and the wind was horrific so I thought sod that.. the only cover would of been to shelter good side of a drystone wall and there was cattle in the shelterd side,, so I set off back to where I started and set up in an area behind the house but far enough away not to piss him off with the foxpro blasting out! this was a good idea although regards places I wanted to set up it wasn't ideal, anything coming in would be on top of me before I could see it but I was sheltered and had 100ish yrd in front of me to play with.. set the caller up just to the right of the gate! the picture you see is crap cos ive taken it through my phone and its magnified it.. what I see is way better, old 38 quantum works well! within five mins of firing the gizmo up with vixen call on Charlie is stood on the wall to the left of the big gate... he didn't hang about and there was no safe backstop so no shot! after about half to 3/4 hour of trying different calls im back on vixen.. I clock number two walking along the wall running parallel to the wood, the wind is howling up the foxes arse and its not got a clue im watching it, it got to the gate junction and jumped down into the arena... torch on boom, didn't have a clue went to retrieve it straight away as any others coming in would instantly clock it .. was a hefty old lump! by now the winds staring to get on my tits and the flask and smokes are taking a hammering.. nothings coming from behind me so im not bothered about smoking. about half an hour later I catch a glimpse of something passing the other side of the gate.. it wasn't interested and may well of been a pig! with that I called it a draw and carted Charle back to the truck to dispose of... bit of a rough night but better than strictly this is the area immediately behind the small gate.. think theres plenty more to come! cheers 13 Quote Link to post
Gav 1,708
Nice one The wind is the shooters nightmare, does my head in too, just unpredictable, used to hate it when driving wagons too, thought I'd been flipped on the 4th road bridge once in an 18 wheeler, never did get the stain out of that seat 1 1 3 Quote Link to post

FOXHUNTER 5,021
Good result considering the conditions I too hate the wind , cant hear the caller and often Charlie catches your wind. Saying that I'm off out tonight to my mates shoot as he saw a fox yesterday , weather wet and windy but sick of being in the house. 1 Quote Link to post
