what caused this ?

 checking  over my beddy saw this on his front leg joint.

its dry and looks like a callus.

anything i can do  to clear it up?

Likely Histiocytoma or Sebaceous Adenoma if worried get vet to check.

just  looked  on google it seems more likely a sebaceous adenoma,

just have to keep a eye on it.

ah, a few weeks ago he was chasing through a lot of thick brambles and 

had a few minor nicks and scratches, might be one i should have picked up on.

should see if i can lance it and clean it up  then.....

If was me mate I just bath dog leave it to soak for 10 mins then just have a little squeeze manipulate it a bit see if it pops it don’t go rough though may take a few go’s

Aye a good possibility of a small "foreign body" in there as the vets would term it,as mentioned clean and gently squeeze the affected area

as for a bath,,,,,, he hates it i have to put a lead on him and hook it to the back gate!!!!!!!!!!!

Try some epsom salts on it when you've squeezed it or if your mr miyagi do the hot cup lol

Can't be sure from the picture but looks like a hotspot, thick coated dogs can be prone to them especially this time of year when it's mild and wet, trim the hair back from round it and regular clean with warm salty water will sort it.
