There’s a lot of info on this link I do know for a fact that the RSPCA still use them I had a situation with a wounded animal in my line of work the RSPCA used it on site there messy that’s all I will say, but you do not need a license just justified in using it.

As above. I used to be manager on a pig farm, we were rspca assured and all that bollocks. We had on site & used captive bolt for anything over 4 weeks old (before that you allowed to whack over head "blunt trauma" rspca called it). Back then I didn't have FAC but once trained was allowed to use it. Only me & assistant manager received the training. Use to captive bolt & then use a pithing rod to ensure death (pigs are tough buggers!)

The slaughterhouse where I worked, only trained people were allowed to use the captive bolt gun but didn't need a fac. The gun had to be signed in and out on breaks etc. I think the premise license allowing slaughtering took into account the use of it and any problem cattle etc the onsite get had to approve the use of it in areas other than the slaughter box.

Cheers, D.

It's the pithing rod that freaks me out ?
