TonyT 1,719
Gents, does anyone have any input on thread in working terriers regarding captive bolt type devices? are they legal with no FAC genuine question. many thanks T Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
You don't need an FAC to buy or own a captive bolt stunner. What you're legally allowed to use it for is probably a different kettle of fish. Quote Link to post

FLATTOP 5,290
There’s a lot of info on this link I do know for a fact that the RSPCA still use them I had a situation with a wounded animal in my line of work the RSPCA used it on site there messy that’s all I will say, but you do not need a license just justified in using it. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/slaughter-poultry-livestock-and-rabbits-for-home-consumption 1 Quote Link to post

BenBhoy 4,706
As above. I used to be manager on a pig farm, we were rspca assured and all that bollocks. We had on site & used captive bolt for anything over 4 weeks old (before that you allowed to whack over head "blunt trauma" rspca called it). Back then I didn't have FAC but once trained was allowed to use it. Only me & assistant manager received the training. Use to captive bolt & then use a pithing rod to ensure death (pigs are tough buggers!) Quote Link to post
dytkos 17,953
The slaughterhouse where I worked, only trained people were allowed to use the captive bolt gun but didn't need a fac. The gun had to be signed in and out on breaks etc. I think the premise license allowing slaughtering took into account the use of it and any problem cattle etc the onsite get had to approve the use of it in areas other than the slaughter box.
