But have a few friends who do, We sold a rib to one of the local free divers, competed at a high level, we would get sack fills of scallops every couple of weeks ..I didnt think I'd tire of eating them but I did..lol I've been looking at buying a sit-on for a year or so now but not quite splashed out. Mostly for getting around the coast faster, more enjoyably and cheaper than something with an engine. I seem to be buying more and more crap for the sea and I couldn't live further from the b*****d place! Ever go out at night on it? I bet kayaking on a full moon is epic. I'd probably die but be epic up to then. 2

There are no rules so to speak mate, I always tell the Mrs what beach I'm launching from and have been meaning to get a type of radio signal VHF which you keep around your neck, you can press a button if you get in trouble and it alerts the coastguard to your whereabouts... If I'm honest I probably do too much on my own, but I'm careful of conditions and fairly confident... if you want a paddle around the coast on a decent day its great, you can be 100 yards from shore and just lazily paddle around.. I was perhaps 1 mile off shore the other night, you cover distance fairly quickly on a decent kayak...I'd strongly advise paying a bit more and getting a better/longer kayak, some of the cheaper end ones are hard to push through the water and eventually you tire of it...

I think I've offered you before, but if the timings are right I'll get you out on one down here, you can try mine and you'll see the difference to a cheaper one... between us we have a few kayaks so if you want a day out and test a few let me know...one of the lads is a keen spear gunner.... I prefer fishing... have a taster off the kayak then make a choice.. Just dont put the data into a graph ffs!! Lol 1

Daniel cain 48,347
You not carry a flairgun in a little survival dry sack kev?I always carried a throw bag with a line, space blanket, whistle on your jacket, everytime on the rivers... I've only ever f****d about in the surf with my old sub 7 playboats, great laugh, so never out more than a few hundred meters.. but If I was doing what you do, emergency flair be something I would want.... Can never be too careful on the water. I used to use a U. S coastguard approved wake board bouyency aid .. Think it was made by gul... If you happen to hit your head... Fall unconscious....stop you going forward, Kept your face up out the water Gutted looking back I should of kept them but got to busy with life that they had to go...... Something I will get back into some day....

I'll be honest Sean, I dont carry everything I should, generally I'm.out with a lot of other water users, but you are completely right that you should carry the essentials... Always wear wetsuit bib and brace, yak jacket and a decent buoyancy aid, I've been out with lads in.bermuda shorts and t shirt...its fine on the beach but you get cold quick sat on one fishing without some decent gear. f**k it, I'm investing in a little hand held VHF and flare kit tonight...
