Fake News and Photoshop have a lot to answer for. When social media first started off people reckoned it would liberate the truth. It did the f'n opposite.

I get your point 100% but thalidomide  was a drug precribed for morning sickness. Women  had no need to take it, it wasn't a killer or a maimer. Thank f**k there's no women on here, they would slate me for that last commemt.

That picture is actually being circulated as legit. Which more than proves your point.

I think the internet has done wonders for us, information wise. A lot of platforms have done great things for teaching and learning. Breaking up entire monopolies in some ways. The downside for that is that you often have to dig for it as the world wide web is constantly resisting any forms of laws and control. I reckon the availability of material has rolled out far faster than our ability to deal with it but even now we're getting better at that. In just a couple of years people are far more likely to fact check content than they were. It'll take a minute, sure, but we'll catch up.

Look at what it's exposed in the last two decades and how people are looking at established institutions in new ways that are eroding their control. Traditional outlets for information have been exposed for corrupt practices. Biases are outed and commented on. That couldn't happen en masse until about 20 years ago.

Back to the OP. Anti-vaxxers have certainly had their fair share of controversy and many people have died from previously controlled and almost eradicated diseases. But how many have been able to get vaccines now they're more reliably informed? That's a social media story I'd like to read but ironically we always seems to dwell on the bad and that's what sells...

Just my take on it.

Although I will add that there are several countries now changing their laws to shut it down when they feel it's necessary. India is a habitual offender. That's something that needs highlighting too. These legal changes are getting pushed in gradually and at a pace where many don't notice. For all of it's uses social media isn't highlighting that enough.

It’s a case of check and double check, yes there is lots of bollocks on the net but there is also enough information to make informed choices or at least to make you ask questions.

There is a rush to always medicate everyone, hence why the UK is having to run adverts telling people NOT to take anti biotics unless they really need them because they are becoming ineffective.

Also kids, kids have never been so medicated......it’s f***ing terrible really.

Kids with autistic spectrum disorder are being pumped full of what is basically speed !!

Theres whole towns in America basically hooked on opiates because of the over prescription of certain types of pain killer !!.......it’s has wreaked havoc.
