I used Indian oil stones for years from being an apprentice, then one day I tried a lads double sided DMT diamond stone and went and bought one the same day. Now I've also got different size DMT files for auger/router bits etc. For sharpening knives/ carving blades I just use Autosol on a strip of leather that's been glued to a paint stirrer (I will get a pic). It works brilliant and no chance of altering/ruining the factory edge already on the blade,I also strop all my chisels/auger bits/router bits etc the same way with leather and Autosol after sharpening to get a really good sharp edge on them . hth

If it’s for the knife I sent over you are going to need a hard stone as that o1 steel is very hard and will ruin something like a Japanese wet stone ?

i need one for the other knives also, at home ,what do you recommend for yours Ken?

Yes mate thats the stuff, I will take a pic of the stirrer/leather item I make that I use with the Autosol to sharpen the blades.Once you see the pic you will know exactly what I mean and how it works, easier to show a pic than explain it tbh .

A good oil stone with a medium and fine side will work perfectly ... and finish off with a leather strop .... I just use an old belt clamped in a vice and pulled tight .....

Just squirt a bit Autosol onto the leather, then apply an even covering over it with your finger. Always do an even number of strokes on both sides of the blade. Then just place the leather against the side of the knife following the original angle of the blade, then in one stroke push from handle end of blade to tip of blade. Then when said number of strokes are done re apply Autosol to leather and do the other side of blade. I usually start out with say 20 strokes each side then reduce to 15 then 10 then 5 strokes.Obviously the blunter the edge the longer it takes but just keep doing the same until your happy with the sharpness and job done. You can get a very good edge this way and it's easy to do without risking damaging the original factory edge on the blade. I use this technique on all my cutting edges on my tools, especially on tools I've just dressed up on the stone . hth

This is a very good video if you have a lot of knives to sharpen. Basically it's how I sharpen above  using the polish/leather technique but this way is a lot quicker using a homemade wooden wheel on a grinder with polish. hth
