Andrewreynoldshunting 738
We started ferreting at 11, plan was to ferret a wood but when we arrived we noticed pheasants and feeders so we sacked that idea and ferreted the horse paddocks instead. You can see the main warren from the road and you will always see 5 or so rabbits sitting outside it. Not anymore though. We had a few digs today, 4ft the deepest, rocks in the soil for the first foot then it weren't too bad digging. We got one in longnet and couple in purse nets. Brandon had a dig on a 2 holer, and he caught two from 3 from another warren. We then went to a smaller wood and we had a few more in nets. A 1 foot shallow dig and bolted two and chased one back to the warren for it to back net. We finished at half 2 with 17 rabbits. We headed to the village to get a bite to eat and then drove to our furthest permission and waited for it to get dark enough to lamp. So we started lamping about 5 ish. This was the first time on this spot and it looks like mixy has struck, first rabbit had mixy. We had a couple more runs and lass caught another but this one was healthy. Seen a few hares which will be good for mooching up and as we were leaving we seen a few more hares next to the gravel road. I was driving so Notts grabbed the spring air rifle, he missed with his first shot but the hare stopped still and his second shot was bang on between the eyes. We then drove to the next spot. The same area we have had 70 rabbits of in two trips. Still seen a few rabbits and lass caught another 4 to add to the tally. We then drove to the third spot. We noticed the rabbits were coming through the walls from the moor when we checked this spot out last time and so we walked the wall catching a few more. The final bit of permission was the land we ferreted earlier in the day. The paddocks had no rabbits on but the fields next to it did. Lass caught 1 more from 3 to take the total to 29 rabbits and 1 hare. We were back home for half 10 - 11 ish after a 2 and half hour drive. It was nice to be back so early. Normally we ain't leaving untill that time. Thanks for reading and have a nice weekend. I decided to cook a red thai curry with three of the rabbits. Which went down very well last night. Still some left to share with my grandpa and I had the hare in the slow cooker over night so will be eating well for a couple days. Andrewreynoldshunting 738
Thanks guys. Yes, Brandon always puts coat on her and feeds after a night out. It's a long day but easier for the driver. Didn't feel tired driving home. Normally sleep before we drive back. Quote Link to post
